Overview


About the Role 

Join our Shopper design team, and play a part in designing experiences for Instacart’s over 600,000 shoppers who rely on Instacart for access to work and financial security. As a Product Designer on this team, you will be supporting several of our Shopper teams that support checkout transactions, activations, appeasements, and more. You’ll partner with cross-functional peers and other designers to balance business goals while also setting shoppers up for success.


About the Team 

The Shopper organization focuses on creating meaningful earning opportunities for shoppers while delivering exceptional quality for customers and retailers. This flex role supports multiple teams within the Shopper organization, driving impact across key areas. The Checkout team ensures accurate and seamless transactions, handling complex retailer-specific variants across our marketplace. The Activation & Appeasement teams focus on onboarding shoppers effectively and resolving poor customer experiences with care. Additionally, this role provides design support across various strategic projects within the Shopper organization.

About the Job

  • Partner with cross-functional team members on defining problems and uncovering unknown areas to explore
  • Solve problems holistically outside of any single project, looking to find opportunities to solve user problems beyond the current roadmap
  • Innovate near-term product solutions that not only drive product experimentation but also contribute to the strategic, long-term vision in collaboration with fellow designers.
  • Tailor communications to a wide variety of stakeholders, including senior leadership, in order to influence decision-making and guiding project direction.
  • Utilize and contribute to the Instacart Design System to craft designs embodying high standards of visual excellence and intuitive interaction.
  • Offer feedback, advice, and/or mentorship to peers, including active participation in team critiques to improve the work of others
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining clear and consistent communication regarding project status


About You

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in digital product design, with a proven track record of working across both mobile and web platforms.
  • Experience supporting multiple teams and/or projects simultaneously, demonstrating strong prioritization and time management abilities
  • Expertise in visual design, with a keen attention to detail and a solid grasp of WCAG accessibility standards.
  • Exceptional communication skills, excelling in cross-functional collaboration to address and solve complex challenges.
  • You are always willing to roll up your sleeves and chip in to help move a project forward – you like to move quickly and drive towards impact
  • You are able to operate with minimal oversight while driving most team projects as the sole product designer


Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with designing products that span multiple product surfaces and/or systems
  • Experience creating or contributing to design systems
  • Experience working with motion design and animation, especially for prototypes for presentations or user research
