As a Sr Principal Software Engineer supporting Global Vision Care Digital Health Team, you will be responsible for designing and implementing complex systems, mentoring junior engineers, and driving best practices in software development. The role is ideal for a highly skilled software engineer with extensive experience in software development, architecture, and leadership.
In this role, a typical day will include:
- Architecture and Design: Lead the design and architecture of scalable, high-performance software systems. Make strategic decisions on software design patterns, technologies, and tools.
- Development Leadership: Oversee the software development lifecycle, ensuring high-quality code is delivered on time. Guide teams in Agile methodologies and best practices.
- Mentorship: Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement. Conduct code reviews and provide constructive feedback.
- Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including product management, UX/UI design, and quality assurance, to deliver integrated solutions that meet business goals.
- Innovation: Stay updated with industry trends and emerging technologies. Contribute to the technical vision and strategy of the organization.
- Problem Solving: Analyze complex problems and provide innovative solutions. Lead troubleshooting efforts and resolve critical issues in production environments.
- Documentation: Maintain clear and comprehensive documentation of software designs, architecture, and processes.
- Design and architect scalable, high-performance applications using Kotlin, Spring Boot, React, NodeJS, and Python.
- Conduct code reviews, provide constructive feedback, and ensure the quality of deliverables.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, optimizing application performance and user experience.
- Define and evolve Build & Release best practice by working within teams and educating the other stakeholder teams. These best practices should support traceability & auditability of change.
- Working closely with Cloud Infrastructure and Security teams to ensure organizational best practices are followed.
- Prepare and document standard operating procedures and protocols.
- Mitigate security vulnerabilities and automate repeatable tasks.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO ALCON:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school+15 yrs; Assoc.+11 yrs; M.S.+4 yrs; PhD+3 yrs)
- 7 Years of Relevant Experience
- Strong proficiency in front end technologies: React, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
- Extensive experience with back-end programming languages: Kotlin, Spring Boot, NodeJS, and Python.
- Familiarity with database management systems, both relational (e.g., MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB)
- The ability to fluently read, write, understand, and communicate in English.
