General Summary:

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a talented leader to join our Analytical Development team in Boston, MA. As the Sr. Principal Scientist, you will play a central role in advancing transformative medicines through all stages of clinical development. You will lead a team of technical experts dedicated to small molecule and synthetic peptide/oligonucleotide analytical development activities, providing scientific leadership and fostering team development.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead a team of talented analytical development scientists, cultivating their growth and development.
  • Oversee the development and validation of core analytical methods, with a focus on chromatographic techniques.
  • Collaborate with project teams to design, oversee and review relevant analytical methods, validation protocols and reports for programs across all phases of development.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to phase-appropriate method development and validation practices within Analytical Development.
  • Ensure the compliance and consistency of method development and validation practice within the organization.
  • Assist with training of staff and development of organizational expertise on method development and validation.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in a pharmaceutical or biotechnology setting
  • Extensive experience in the space of method development and validation
  • Technical expertise on analytical techniques, such as chromatography (GC, LC, GC-MS, LC-MS, etc), KF and spectroscopy
  • Technical expertise for troubleshooting, data review and interpretation
  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical industry regulations and guidelines
  • Expertise on GMP concepts and practices
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Strong communication skills both oral and written
  • Strong knowledge and experience in writing/reviewing analytical reports for regulatory submissions   
  • The ability to work successfully in both a team/matrix environment as well as independently
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, manage priorities, communicate outcomes and maintain timelines for multiple projects
  • Attention to detail

Education and Experience:

  • Ph.D. with 6-8+ years, Master’s degree with 9+ years, or BS degree with 11+ years of relevant professional analytical development experience

Pay Range:

$158,800 - $238,200

Disclosure Statement:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.

On-Site Designated
