As a Senior Director, Category Strategy reporting to our US Head of NA Strategy & Transformation, you will play a multi-faceted leadership role to define and accelerate our category strategies. You will be partnering with category teams on specific future looking topics, develop a deep understanding of market/competitive/consumer dynamics to define our strategy and drive action against them. In addition, you will have an opportunity to elevate our innovation performance to link it tightly to growth missions, strengthen individual innovation projects and inspire bigger newer ideas to innovate towards.
WHAT THIS ROLE DOES
Strategic Growth Ownership & Initiatives
- Oversee innovation governance and identify innovation opportunities, including synergies within and cross-category to ensure a sufficient long-term pipeline
- Elevate innovation pipeline health including objective independent review with clear opportunities identified and shared within and cross-category
- (i) sufficiency over three years
- (ii) strong two-way linkage to agreed growth priorities
- (iii) portfolio prioritization / resource allocation
- (iv) Leverage all innovation types - core renovation, PPA, Flavor/LE, seasonals
- Co-develop and execute Innovation inspiration sessions and influence identification of mega ideas in strategic spaces across growth missions
- Run monthly Innovation Council with NA LT and commercial USLT members
- Run half yearly category PMR - along with category leaders, RDQ, PCM and Finance
- Conduct strategic topic studies and projects: identify, lead, execute and embed
- In partnership with category teams identify topics for strategic project
- Define the problem, approach, hypothesis and lead the process with the category teams
- Be the bold content leader and thought partner to Category GMs (and challenge them to a stronger / bolder outcome)
- Partner to see embedding of the strategy in the category actions. Ensure any follow through workshops to ensure execution
- Cross-category assessment of emerging opportunities to uncover long-term trends and growth opportunities
- Proactively detect trends through market analysis, consumer insights and competitive benchmarking to identify new threats and opportunities
- Lead cross category future back topics e.g. opportunity in mindful snacking, growth territories, cohort opportunities etc.
- Support embedding new category capabilities (to be identified along with category leaders) e.g. penetration/laws of growth, etc.
Leadership Influence & Management
- Be the bold content leader to emerge as the go-to person for Category GMs and the category teams on their top strategic growth mission topics
- Proactively show opportunities, risks and frame the priorities - so category team actions remain well linked with broader enterprise strategy and vision
- BPR Deep Dive - Partner with category teams on content creation and synthesis of strategy (monthly 2-3 topics):
- To align lead hypothesis with category teams, and deliver high quality content with strong linkage to step change insights.
- Push for boldness in recommendation with alignment / support of cross-functional leadership
What extra ingredients you will bring:

- 10+ years of experience in category management or strategic marketing & brand experience in CPG industry
- Strong analytical skills and ability to interpret complex data and market trends
- Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal
- Proven track record of developing and executing successful category strategies that drive growth
- Strong problem-solving skills, business acumen, and strategic vision to overcome operational roadblocks
- Exceptional communication, executive presence, and collaboration skills to maintain strong relationships with cross functional stakeholders
- University Degree, Masters Preferred
For salaried roles based: The anticipated base salary range for this position is $166,700 - $291,725; the exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results. (for Band I+ also include... and eligibility to participate in our long-term incentive program).
