Maxar Space is seeking a motivated Sr. Director of Business Development and Capture for National Security Space to help drive continued portfolio growth. This position is located in Herndon, VA. The work can also be accomplished remotely within the U.S. with frequent travel required. In this role, you will apply your demonstrated skills with leading, planning, and managing activities surrounding the identification, pursuit, and capture new business opportunities across the U.S. Department of Defense and Intelligence Community. You'll work closely with internal and external stakeholders to develop account plans for key customers, aligning Maxar Space capabilities with emerging NSS space architectures, and capturing programs that deliver differentiated value in the areas of Space ISR, Space Control, and Space Communications.
Main Objectives of the Role Are:

  • Lead, plan, and manage activities surrounding the identification, pursuit, and capture of new NSS business opportunities that leverage Maxar core competencies and discriminated capabilities.
  • Provide portfolio oversight on all aspects of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) that includes steps to develop and execute growth strategies, identify new business opportunities, establish pursuit priorities, gain and grow customer intimacy, and develop successful capture plans.
  • Lead the coordination of assigned Mission Architects, Chief Engineers, technical leads, and Program Managers in the development of tailored solutions in response to discerned customer needs, formulation/execution of capture plans and strategies, pursuit and proposal activities, and customer relationship management.
  • Drive the preparation, review, and delivery of high-quality, responsive solutions to both captive and competitively pursued opportunities, leading internal teams to prepare proposals, rough order of magnitude estimates, and responses to requests for information that are informed by strong customer engagement and competitive intelligence.
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with current and new NSS customers (both government and industry). Gain recognition as a trusted and respected representative of Maxar, and influence program awards consistent with customer requirements and Maxar objectives.
  • This position will require up to 50% of travel


Minimum Requirements:

  • Must be a U.S. citizen with an active TS/SCI security clearance
  • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a technical discipline or one of the sciences or engineering. An additional four years of experience may be substituted for a degree.
  • 10 years of relevant experience
  • Experience in leading new business capture activities, development of classified proposals, and closing on new business in the DoD/IC market.


Preferred Skills:

  • Master's degree in a technical discipline or business/management.
  • Strong knowledge of and contacts within the DoD/IC, NSS, and Civil Space markets, and industry.
  • A results-oriented self-starter with demonstrated ability to cultivate, grow and close on new business opportunities.
  • Strong technical and operational competence in any or all of the following mission domains: Space ISR, Space Control, or Space Communications.
  • Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills in relevant business environments.
  • Excellent verbal communication and presentation skills to senior decision-making and technical audiences.
  • Strong written communication and proposal writing skills.
  • Strong programmatic background with government or industry, on a solutions-based effort.
  • Hands-on experience with the system engineering, design, development, test, and/or mission operations of a satellite flight program.

The successful candidate's starting pay will fall within the salary range provided below and is determined based on job-related factors, including, but not limited to, the experience, qualifications, knowledge, skills, geographic work location, and market conditions. Candidates with the minimum necessary experience, qualifications, knowledge, and skillsets for the position should not expect to receive the upper end of the pay range.
• The base pay for this position within Colorado is: $173,000.00 - $288,000.00 annually.
• The base pay for this position within the Washington, DC metropolitan area is: $190,000.00 - $316,000.00 annually.
• The base pay for this position within California is: $199,000.00 - $331,000.00 annually.
For all other states, we use geographic cost of labor as an input to develop market-driven ranges for our roles, and as such, each location where we hire may have a different range.
