Job Description
The Red Gate Group is seeking a highly skilled Sr. DevOps Engineer to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in Reston, VA. In this critical role, you will be a key leader in developing, maintaining, and modernizing mission-critical IT systems. As a platform engineer, you’ll take the lead on building innovative solutions, transforming legacy systems, and driving the adoption of modern DevOps practices. Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and support of DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines.
- Manage Kubernetes-based containerization, including building images and orchestrating deployments.
- Oversee the deployment and management of automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, and Chef.
- Implement and optimize infrastructure-as-code environments for large-scale deployments.
- Ensure security and compliance by evaluating and mitigating vulnerabilities in containerized environments.
- Mentor junior developers and guide teams toward innovative, mission-aligned solutions.
Qualifications
- Active TS/SCI
- Experience developing custom applications and supporting them in a production environment
- 5+ years of experience building and supporting DevOps tools and CI/CD pipelines
- 3+ years of experience with containerization, building images and orchestrating deployments in Kubernetes
- 2+ years of experience managing tools deployed with Helm using ArgoCD or Flux and writing custom Helm charts
- 2+ years of experience with automation tools (e.g. Ansible, Puppet, Chef)
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code environments, including activities around the automated server or network configurations, large-scale software deployments, or monitoring and testing, such as continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD)
- Knowledge of container networking, monitoring, and storage solutions
- Knowledge of container security technologies with experience evaluating and mitigating or resolving vulnerability findings
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience developing in Java or Python
- Experience with Prometheus/Grafana and/or ElasticSearch/Kibana and FluentD
- Experience with design, deployment, and management of Cloud environments, including AWS or Azure
- Experience with using or migrating continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery (CD) pipeline solutions or tools, including Jenkins, Git, or TeamCity
- Experience with system integration using a variety of protocols, including JSON, REST, and XML
- Experience with scripting in Bash, PowerShell, Python, Groovy, or Ruby and leveraging JSON, YAML, or XML for configuration
- Knowledge of cloud and virtualization-based technologies, including Docker, Azure, AWS, or VMware
- Knowledge of Linux or UNIX administration and automation
- Knowledge of foundational system administration principles
- Knowledge of and experience with classified environment processes and protocols
- Kubernetes certification
