Zoox's accounting team plays a pivotal role in ensuring Zoox operates efficiently and sustainably by providing accurate financial management, compliance, and strategic insights.
We are seeking a detail-oriented Senior Cost Accountant to join our accounting team, with a primary focus on leading month-end close activities. This role will ensure accurate cost accounting, inventory valuation, and financial reporting to support operational efficiency and profitability. The ideal candidate brings extensive experience in manufacturing cost analysis and a proven track record of managing timely and precise month-end processes.
In this role, you will:
- Oversee and execute all cost accounting aspects of the month-end close process, ensuring deadlines are met with accuracy and compliance.
- Reconcile manufacturing costs, including raw materials, labor, and overhead, and record adjustments for work-in-process (WIP), finished goods, and inventory accounts.
- Prepare and review month-end journal entries related to production costs, inventory valuations, and cost of goods sold (COGS).
- Analyze variances between actual and standard costs, providing detailed explanations and supporting documentation for management and audit purposes during close cycles.
- Maintain compliance with GAAP and internal policies during all close activities.
- Conduct thorough analysis of manufacturing costs to support accurate product costing and profitability reporting during month-end close.
- Maintain and validate inventory records, ensuring alignment with physical counts and financial systems as part of close activities.
- Review bill of materials (BOM) and production routing data to ensure cost accuracy for month-end reporting.
- Generate comprehensive month-end cost reports, including profitability by profit center, cost variance summaries, and inventory movement analysis.
- Collaborate with the finance team to ensure month-end financial statements reflect accurate manufacturing cost data.
- Support internal audits by preparing detailed month-end close reconciliations and cost-related schedules.
- Track key cost metrics (e.g., material usage, labor efficiency) to inform future close cycles and financial planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 8+ years of cost accounting experience in a manufacturing environment, with a strong emphasis on month-end close processes.
- In-depth knowledge of manufacturing cost structures, including standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory reconciliation.
- Advanced proficiency in ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.) for managing month-end tasks.
- Exceptional analytical skills, with a focus on delivering accurate and timely financial data during close cycles.
- Highly organized, with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple responsibilities under tight month-end deadlines.
- Strong communication skills to coordinate with production teams, finance staff, and management during the close process.

There are three major components to compensation for this position: base pay, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The pay range for this position is $136,000 to $163,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The pay range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
