JOB DESCRIPTION
Empower is looking for a high-impact Senior Compliance Manager to join Empower's Compliance team. The individual will be responsible for owning key components of Empower's CMS with a focus on Empower's lending product offerings. This role presents ample opportunity to build relationships across Empower's business teams, including Product, Credit, Marketing, Operations, and Engineering. This individual will report to the Head of Compliance.
The ideal candidate is seeking a balance between thought leadership and tactical execution. The individual has demonstrated sound judgment, pragmatism, and expert understanding of the consumer lending regulatory environment. The successful candidate excels as a player-coach and is energized by the opportunities (and challenges) of a high-growth startup.
Travel for company offsites is expected at a minimum 2 times a year.
RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain and mature components of Empower's consumer lending compliance program:
    • Develop or maintain/review policies, procedures, and guidance
    • Establish and maintain documented routines for compliance oversight responsibilities
    • Create and execute a risk-based monitoring program against applicable regulations and internal policies
    • Define impactful compliance metrics and develop other tools necessary to prepare actionable compliance reports to senior management and Empower's Board
    • Mature Empower's lending compliance risk and control matrices
  • Lead lending compliance risk assessment activities
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for Empower's lending compliance related topics
  • Conduct business review processes that may give rise to compliance risk (e.g., credit policy and underwriting standards, marketing collateral, new or enhanced products and services)
  • Assist with the management of Empower's third-party compliance-related audits and liaise with Empower's bank partners and service providers on various compliance-related matters
  • Champion a strong culture of compliance


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ years of consumer lending compliance experience; bank experience preferred
  • Experience managing and developing teams
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships across an organization
  • Demonstrated success influencing and providing effective challenge
  • Ability to holistically analyze risk trends, including recognizing signs of changes in risk levels and symptoms of control breakdowns with a keen eye to appropriately identify root causes
  • Experience communicating complex regulatory concepts clearly and concisely to management and external stakeholders
  • Possess strong project management skills and ability to prioritize multiple demands
