At Relativity Space, we have two audacious goals: to build the next great commercial launch company with Terran R and to become America's leading force in additive manufacturing innovation. Both contribute to our long-term vision of creating humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to expand the possibilities of the human experience. This journey begins right here on Earth – where we design, build, and fly rockets to deliver customer payloads to orbit. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable rocket, fulfills the growing demand for launch capacity, thanks to our iterative approach that accelerates design, testing, and development while minimizing costs. While our groundbreaking research and development in 3D printing pushes the boundaries of large-scale additive manufacturing.

Your journey with us is more than just a job – it’s an opportunity to shape the future of aerospace technology, additive manufacturing, and the human experience alongside a community of passionate, creative individuals. Join us on this extraordinary journey, as we work together to transform our vision into reality.

About the Team:

The Infrastructure Design and Construction team is at the core of Relativity’s growth and development. Through our collaboration and expertise, we deliver projects that lay the foundation for Relativity’s future success. In essence, ‘we build the factory that builds the rockets!

We are responsible for cross functional relationships with teams such as Manufacturing, Propulsion, PBF, Avionics, Machine Shop, Facilities, EHS and Security to name a few, working through design specifications and execution of critical infrastructure projects that supports the mission of work centers. Our relationships don’t stop there, working daily with government agencies, utility suppliers, vendors and contractors who support our factory build out. Our team ensures that all projects meet operational requirements, safety and environmental codes, all the while remaining within budget, delivering on time, and to the highest quality as we help to drive production forward.

Infrastructure Design: This group works closely with critical work centers to develop tailored designs that include utilities, power distribution, structural foundations, and other key pre-construction elements. By aligning each design with the specific needs of the work centers, we ensure that projects are optimized for performance and scalability from the outset.

Construction: This team brings the designs to life, managing the full build-out process. From site preparation to the installation of essential systems, we ensure that each work center is built with precision, safety, and quality in mind.

About the Role:

  • Mechanical System Design & Implementation – Oversee the design, installation, and maintenance of HVAC systems, chillers, process piping, and gas systems (e.g., nitrogen, compressed air, argon) to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and scalability for manufacturing and testing needs.
  • Construction Administration & Vendor Management – Manage mechanical aspects of construction projects, including equipment submittal reviews, responding to RFIs, coordinating with external design consultants, suppliers, and construction managers to ensure project alignment and quality execution.
  • Preventative Maintenance & Risk Mitigation – Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs for mechanical equipment, ensuring reliability, efficiency, and lifespan while integrating risk mitigation strategies.
  • Project Management & Cost Estimation – Lead projects from conception to completion, including scope of work development, RFP creation, bid solicitation, contractor management, QA/QC processes, and ROM estimates to guide budgeting decisions.
  • Building Automation & Operational Efficiency – Support the integration of a Building Automation System (BAS) to monitor and control mechanical systems, optimizing performance and reducing energy consumption.
  • Documentation & Continuous Improvement – Maintain as-built documentation, ensure integration into the site Master CAD and maintenance management system, and work collaboratively with internal teams and external consultants to enhance mechanical design and implementation.

About You:

  • Education & Certification – Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field; a master’s degree and/or Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
  • Experience in Mechanical Systems – 5+ years of experience in building mechanical systems design, construction, and maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial setting, with expertise in HVAC, MCC, chillers, boilers, and process piping.
  • Building Controls & Automation – Knowledge of building automation and management systems (BAS, BMS, BIS), including integration with facility management platforms.
  • Technical & Regulatory Knowledge – Strong understanding of applicable codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., ASHRAE, NFPA, ASME), along with proficiency in design software like AutoCAD and Revit.
  • Problem-Solving & Collaboration – Excellent troubleshooting skills for complex mechanical systems and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
  • Communication & Leadership – Strong communication skills with the ability to coordinate with internal teams, external consultants, and contractors to ensure successful project execution.

Nice to haves but not required:

  • Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable.
  • Experience in the aerospace or manufacturing industries.
  • Experience with plumbing systems design and implementation.

What We Do

A rocket company at the core, Relativity Space is on a mission to become the next great commercial launch company. Terran R, our medium-to-heavy lift reusable launch vehicle, will reliably deliver payloads to orbit on-time and on-budget for customers – meeting the needs of growing demand for space infrastructure. Leveraging the benefits of additive manufacturing to design, test, and iterate at a pace unmatched in the industry, we are changing the way rockets are built and flown.

Our long-term goal is to create humanity’s industrial base on Mars, paving the way for interplanetary life to fundamentally expand the possibilities of the human experience. The first step toward this vision starts here on Earth, by building the next great commercial launch company.

Why Work With Us

For 60 years, aerospace manufacturing has relied on fixed tooling and complex supply chains to slowly build rockets comprised of hundreds of thousands of parts. Leveraging advances in additive manufacturing, Relativity Space is strategically focused on reducing vehicle complexity, cost, and time to market.
