This role will be filled in a hybrid capacity, with collaboration taking place in our Columbus, OH office.  This role does not qualify for employer-sponsored work authorization. Nationwide does not participate in the Stem OPT Extension program.

We are seeking a Specialist, Software Engineer for the Innovation Nation line to support Smart Home Products. The ideal candidate will have:

• 4+ years of experience and a deep understanding of the Angular Framework, along with strong knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript.

• Experience with APIGEE proxies, integrating RESTful APIs, and a JavaScript state management platform (ngrx).

• Proficiency in version control (Git) and a solid understanding of web-based security, including secure coding practices and standards.

• DevOps experience and familiarity with tools such as Kubernetes, Concourse, Harness, and Splunk.

• Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS and cloud-native platforms with Kubernetes.

• Skills in log analysis, troubleshooting, and experience with monitoring and observability tools such as New Relic.

• Proficiency in writing unit tests and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.

• A desire to learn and master new technologies and languages, with a strong grasp of Agile methodologies.

• Personal Lines knowledge is a plus.

As a Software Engineer, you will focus primarily on providing high quality, efficient technology solutions to business partners by crafting new software applications or modifying and/or supporting existing packaged or custom-built applications. In this capacity, you’ll analyze, code, configure, test, debug, document and maintain applications.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

• Analyzes, solutions, develops, tests, debugs, documents and deploys software according to standards in an agile environment.

• Applies secure software and systems engineering practices throughout the delivery lifecycle to ensure our data and technology solutions are protected from threats and vulnerabilities.

• Uses DevSecOps practices, tooling and techniques.

• Drives continuous improvement and learning through ongoing training, practice and innovation.

• Manages medium to large project priorities, deadlines and deliverables proactively.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships: Reports to a Technology Manager/Director. 

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education: Completion of undergraduate studies in computer science, management information systems, or other related degree. Technology experience or non-traditional technology certificates can be substituted for an undergraduate degree. 

Experience: Four or more years of analysis and technology experience.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Proficiency in one or more programming language such as Java, C++, Python, JavaScript. Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle. Proven ability to tackle complex business and development problems. Ability to thrive in a team environment. Insurance/financial services industry knowledge a plus.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence. 

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resources Business Partner.
