A Solution Architect focuses on the analysis, design, development, and implementation of technology solutions for the firm. Solution Architecture involves the overall technology design and integration designs for internally built systems, vendor hosted systems and SaaS products. Solution Architecture ensures technology solutions are effectively and efficiently designed, produced, tested, and meets business requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Lead working groups to create and maintain Reference Architectures for the domain
  • Review Reference Architecture with stakeholders (e.g., Technical Product Managers, Enterprise Architecture, Architecture Steering Group)
  • Lead resolution of open issues and decisions necessary to finalize and approve Reference Architectures
  • Identify opportunities to establish and/or leverage Design Patterns in the domain
  • Lead efforts to define Design Patterns with Engineers and ensure these are reviewed / approved through ARB
  • Periodically review and assess the architecture of applications in the domain. Identify improvement opportunities for improving tech standardization, improving resiliency, enhancing business functionality, efficiency and strengthening risk management
  • Collaborate with business and IT stakeholders to understand roadmaps and features as required to design the technology solution
  • Define technology solution architecture(s) to contextualize solution development and engineering efforts for Agile delivery pods
  • Lead strategic options analysis for any design decisions and product selections. Ensure decisions and options are reviewed with decision-makers
  • Lead small team efforts to design and deliver proof of concept solutions and/or pilot solutions for scenarios when a new technology is being introduced to meet a business need
  • Design for functional and non-functional qualities - availability, resiliency, security, etc.
  • Consult with Technology Infrastructure and Information Security architects and engineers to confirm correct technical services are being used, standards are being applied and design patterns are being leveraged
  • Understand the domain delivery roadmap in-depth and identify any architecture changes requiring ARB governance
  • For any architecture changes requiring ARB governance, lead efforts to prepare and present designs and to ARB
  • Ensure technology solutions in the domain comply with Reference Architectures and Design Patterns
  • Ensure architecture changes adhere to ARB process requirements (Build Permit, Op Permit)
  • Lead the resolution of issues raised by ARB Approval groups
  • Ensure any architecture / design exceptions are self-identified and raised to Business Control Office with defined resolution plan and target date to resolve
  • Work with Technical Product Manager(s) / Owners (TPM, TPO) to ensure backlogs include scope as required to resolve architecture / design exceptions, assess application rationalization opportunities, adhere to Reference Architectures and to leverage governed Design Patterns
  • Work with Enterprise Architecture to identify opportunities to rationalization applications in the domain. This includes the opportunity to retire | rearchitect or rehost systems
  • Lead the analysis to complete any assessments of application rationalization opportunities
  • Design solutions including both custom built and vendor products
  • Design API or Microservice integrations (using Java frameworks)
  • Design cloud solutions (such as AWS) and work with cloud engineering teams
  • Design solution with Data Engineering teams leveraging a modern cloud data architecture
  • Design solutions leveraging Process Automation (such as Camunda)
  • Produce deliverables such as technology designs, architecture overviews, design patterns and technology blueprints within an architecture framework such as TOGAF
  • Lead efforts to create Permits and prepare | present designs through the ARB process
  • Collaborate with senior business and IT stakeholders to secure strong engagement for the solution and ensures that the delivery of the Platform aligns to longer-term strategic roadmap
  • Participate as a technology lead to collaborate with Agile pods to deliver business benefits with effective and efficient use of technology Platform(s)
  • Collaborate with business SMEs, engineers, architects, and other roles from multiple disciplines to conduct strategic options analysis and high-level design for Platform(s); Present to stakeholders on how options will meet their needs
  • Improve stability of Platforms by assisting with complex Problem Resolution efforts to determine root cause and fixes related to Production Incidents

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years demonstrated experience with engineering, building, and/or architecting technology solutions
  • Minimum of 5 years demonstrated experience designing technology solutions and integrations for Payments applications, Treasury Services applications (e.g. online banking, embedded banking, customer-facing APIs)
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Math, Computer Science, or MIS
  • Designing, developing & implementing solutions using multiple integration methods (Batch integrations, API integrations.
  • Demonstrated experience using APIs in solution designs - Request / Response (SOAP / XML, REST, GraphQL, API policy management)
  • Ability to demonstrate progress to measure and improve the architecture maturity for supported domains
  • Advanced knowledge and experience designing and implementing multiple systems | applications | data services that use modern technologies (Public Cloud, Microservices, App Integrations, APIs, Process Automation) at a large scale (1000+ internal users, 100K+ external users)
  • Advanced knowledge and experience designing and implementing multiple systems using all of these deployment models - SaaS / IaaS / PaaS / On Premise
  • Advanced level knowledge of the practical application of technology systems engineering, including applying principles, techniques and technologies to the design and implementation of products
  • Advanced level knowledge of the associated applications and technologies within assigned domain(s)
  • Drives architecture standards and best practices for applications and technologies within the domains directly supported
  • Ability to identify IT Exceptions and contribute to backlog prioritization and resolution plans to bring a system | application back into compliance with architecture standards
  • Ability to lead working groups to complete the definition and approval of 1 or more Reference Architectures through an Enterprise Architecture governance process
  • Ability to communicate solution options and reach alignment and decisions with multiple stakeholders, including Executive Director level roles, across technology and business teams.
  • Ability to participate as a reviewer | approver of ARB Permits through Build and Operational stages of ARB or equivalent forum
  • Ability to contribute to establishing and/or updated multiple governed Design Patterns - including completion of PoCs, documentation of Design Pattern(s) and approval through an Architecture Review Board (ARB) or equivalent forum
  • Strong consultative skills at a cross-functional level
  • Ability to obtain, analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources
  • Effective time management skills and a proven track record of meeting various deadlines
  • Demonstrated experience designing, building and implementing systems with Agile delivery methods (Scrum, Kanban, DevOps)
  • Ability to manage competing priorities on concurrent large, complex projects, initiatives, and deliverables
  • Ability to leverage tools to build system designs and provide updates during Agile ceremonies and other forums 
  • Ability to contribute and lead efforts to complete and approve Permits through Build and Operational stages of an ARB or equivalent forum
  • Strong formal business writing skills - including proficiency of using MS Office products for written communications and presentations
