Role: Software Test Automation Engineer

Smith+Nephew Sports Medicine group is building an advanced Cloud-based platform for computer-assisted surgical navigation. Join us on this journey to design and develop new innovative digital products that shape and redefine what is possible in Sports Medicine.
We are seeking a Senior level Test Automation Engineer, to lead the test automation initiative for complex Cloud-based software systems within Sports Medicine. In this role, your primary focus will be developing and implementing an automation framework for API/end-to-end testing for cloud and web-based software products applying frameworks and tools like Selenium, Cucumber, TestRail and Postman. You will collaborate closely with Product Owners, Software developers and DevOps engineers to optimize testing processes and ensure seamless integration of test suites into DevOps pipeline.
Responsibilities:
- Design and implement scalable test automation frameworks for AWS Cloud-based applications.
- Create a comprehensive test plan and strategy aligned with product requirements.
- Maintain test cases and test runs using TestRail to ensure traceability and visibility of testing efforts.
- Use Jira for tracking issues and progress, aligning test automation efforts with Agile processes to ensure timely and effective delivery.
- Assist in functional testing of new features, enhancements, and bug fixes. Establish quality gates and testing criteria for deployment approvals.
- Enhance observability and traceability of automated test pipelines, improving overall QA processes and system reliability.
- Work effectively multi-functionally with Technical Delivery Leader, Design & Usability, Marketing, R&D, Quality, and Regulatory and others to ensure inputs are considered and accounted for in automation testing scenarios.
- Perform design control functions to ensure compliance with FDA, ISO, and other industry standards.
What will you need to be successful?
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in Software Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent required; MS or PhD in Software Engineering, or Computer Science or equivalent preferred.
- Certification in Selenium or similar Automation Testing preferred.
- Should have a minimum 3 to 5 years of experience in test automation with focus on UAT testing, preferably with Selenium/Cypress/Playwright
- Experience with coding automation test Java/Python/Node.js
- Experience in testing web applications using HTML5 and Angular JS.
- Extensive experience in API testing (REST, Microservices) using tools like Postman and TestRail.
- Strong hands-on experience developing and maintaining test automation frameworks for server-side testing using Java, Kotlin, Python, or similar (Java or Python Preferred).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS Preferred) and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab DevOps, or equivalent.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills, with a proven ability to lead complex automation projects.
