EBS (part of Alarm.com) is seeking a versatile Software Technical Lead to work on our Platform team with a strong background in databases and SRE. You will be part of the team that focuses on supporting our backend infrastructure, both triaging and responding to incidents, supporting our deployments and the associated tooling, as well as analyzing our system for improvements and introducing new technologies to our stack. We work at scale – we have millions of customers and millions of devices sending us data all the time.

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ALARM.COM?

  • Be a mentor to our growing engineering department.
  • Engage in the research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems.
  • Take part in the entire project life cycle, from requirements development to deployment.
  • Work hard and be flexible: we have quick development cycles, evolving requirements, and lots of cross-team collaboration.
  • Exercise good judgment. Know when to work quickly, and when to build a robust solution. Your work will be used by multiple business units, so you will need to consider many use cases when developing.
  • Bring your ideas! We want our engineers to collaborate on product development, not blindly build to a spec.
  • Be part of a team that helps support our core production operations and deployments.
  • Lead a small, self-sufficient team of engineers who are involved in support of our platform and production operations.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

WHAT DO YOU NEED?

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience
  • Experience leading and/or mentoring other engineers
  • Significant database design and development experience (SQL Server a plus)
  • Experience supporting a production system at scale
  • Expert object-oriented programming skills; C# and .NET a plus
  • Willingness to be on call to respond to incidents
  • Willingness to regularly support our production deployments + production maintenances, which can be outside of normal business hours

NICE TO HAVES:

  • Experience with monitoring tools such as: Wavefront, Datadog, Prometheus, Grafana, or SumoLogic
  • Experience with capacity planning, code tuning, and work on a large platform
  • Expertise with SQL databases, both in terms of schema + application development, as well as optimizations, monitoring, and management (Microsoft SQL Server a plus)
  • Familiarity with database performance analysis (analyzing query plans, finding and introducing indexes, DB table design best practices
  • Cloud database experiences (e.g. Azure SQL Managed Instances)
  • Strong communication skills and experience working across different departments and with stakeholders
  • IIS webserver experience
  • K8s experience
  • Experience with NoSQL databases
  • Experience with technologies like Kafka, Redis, and Elasticsearch
  • Experience with various monitoring tools (Wavefront, DataDog, Prometehus)
