If the above holds true for you, then we would love to talk to you! EBS (part of Alarm.com) is looking for a versatile Senior Software Engineer to work on our Platform team. We are looking for somebody with database experience, both in terms of helping support databases in dev, test, and prod, as well as advising other engineers on database best practices. We work at scale – we have millions of customers and millions of devices sending us data all the time.

WHAT CAN YOU DO FOR ALARM.COM?

  • Gather and analyze metrics from our various SQL environments and proactively identify inefficiencies and introduce improvements.
  • Assist teams in adopting database best practices and support the introduction of new features.
  • Assist in planning out our overall database roadmap, working with a mix of on-premises and cloud databases.
  • Help evaluate and propose new data storage technologies in our architecture, as well as introduce tooling and best practices around these.
  • Being involved with infrastructure maintenance.
  • Engage in the research, evaluation, and application of new technologies and methodologies to solve challenging problems.
  • Work hard and be flexible: we have quick development cycles, evolving requirements, and lots of cross-team collaboration.
  • Exercise good judgment. Know when to work quickly, and when to build a robust solution. Your work will be used by multiple business units, so you will need to consider many use cases when developing.
  • Bring your ideas! We want our engineers to collaborate on product development, not blindly build to a spec.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field 
  • 3+ years of equivalent work experience in software development
  • Strong object-oriented programming skills such as: C#, Java, C++, Python
  • Expertise with SQL databases, both in terms of schema + application development, as well as optimizations, monitoring, and management (Microsoft SQL Server a plus)
  • Familiarity with database performance analysis (analyzing query plans, finding and introducing indexes, DB table design best practices
  • Cloud database experiences (e.g. Azure SQL Managed Instances)
  • Strong communication skills and experience working across different departments and with stakeholders
  • Willingness to be on call to respond to incidents
  • Willingness to regularly support our production deployments + production maintenances, which can be outside of normal business hours

NICE TO HAVES:

  • IIS webserver experience
  • Experience with NoSQL databases
  • Experience with technologies like Kafka, Redis, and Elasticsearch
  • Experience with various monitoring tools (Wavefront, DataDog, Prometehus)
