Valuation Control Group is responsible for all aspects of the valuation control framework, including independent price verification, valuation and prudent valuation adjustments. We challenge the trading business to ensure appropriate constraints/controls in place.
As a Software Engineer III at JPMorgan Chase within the VCG Technology team, you will partner with our internal VCG business counterparts, as well as various Quantitative Research and Front office technology teams, in order to design and deliver trusted market-leading technology products in a secure, stable, and scalable way. Majority of automated BAU operations are built within a Python based, JPM Internal Athena platform, while the long term strategic shift of reporting is moving towards Amazon S3 and Databricks solutions.
Job responsibilities
- Design, Develop, and Execute software solutions, that meet the business need of VCG business reporting teams
- Create secure, high-quality production cod whilst proactively identifying hidden problems and inefficiencies within the codebase or data feeds. Use these insights to drive improvements to our coding hygiene and system architecture.
- Produce architecture and design artifacts for complex applications while being accountable for ensuring design constraints are met
- Technical troubleshooting with ability to think beyond routine or conventional approaches, to build solutions or break down technical problems of multi-faceted infrastructure
- Develop visualizations and reporting from large, diverse data sets
- Production support, Requirements gathering - direct interaction with internal clients to resolve active incidents and planning for future development
- Contribute to software engineering communities of practice and events that explore new and emerging technologies

Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

- Experience in developing, debugging, and maintaining code with one or more modern programming languages and database querying languages (eg. Python, SQL, or languages similar level of abstraction)
- Hands-on practical experience in system design, application development, and documentation
- Strong communication skills, with ability to describe complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Overall knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle
- Solid understanding of agile methodologies such as Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery, Application Resiliency, and Security
- Demonstrated knowledge of software applications and technical processes within any previous technical discipline (e.g., cloud, artificial intelligence, machine learning, mobile, etc.)
- Expertise in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Mathematics, or a related technical field
Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills
- Good understanding of Test driven development and Object oriented programming paradigms
- Experience with Cloud based solutions (Amazon S3, DataBricks)
- Familiarity with modern front-end technologies
- Critical thinker with sound judgement and ability to challenge constructively
- Curious personality; inclusive; detail oriented; Always looking to improve.
- Good at multi-tasking and prioritization - handling a mix of planned work and adhoc support
