Software Development Manager- API Platform

UTA is seeking a Software Development Manager- API Platform Ato lead the Engineering Team in building innovative and sustainable solutions to meet business requirements. You will drive the foundational architecture and develop robust APIs to leverage UTA's rich data ecosystem effectively. By utilizing best practices in software engineering, you will deliver scalable solutions, foster team development, and enable integration across UTA’s technology landscape.

The salary range for this role is $190,000 to $210,000 commensurate with experience and skills.

What You Will Do

Platform and API Management

• Lead the design and implementation of scalable APIs, ensuring seamless integration with internal systems and external partners.
• Establish and enforce API governance practices, including versioning, authentication, rate limiting, and monitoring, to deliver secure and efficient APIs.
• Drive platform development initiatives to empower UTA’s data ecosystem, ensuring robust data pipelines, microservices, and scalable infrastructure.
• Architect and implement cloud-based solutions tailored to company objectives, enabling faster, more efficient business operations and platform scalability.

Technical Leadership

• Champion and instill engineering best practices, such as test-driven development (TDD), agile methodologies, DevOps practices, and maintaining a balance between innovation and managing technical debt.
• Establish software development standards to ensure the delivery of high-quality code and a well-architected platform.
• Actively participate in all phases of the project lifecycle, working closely with product management to address challenges, eliminate roadblocks, and provide visibility to stakeholders.
• Serve as a technical leader while contributing directly to product initiatives and mentoring your team in platform and API best practices.

Collaboration and Strategy

• Partner with cross-functional teams to align platform and API solutions with UTA’s strategic goals and business needs.
• Use KPIs, analytics, and data insights to optimize engineering processes, platform performance, and delivery timelines.
• Work closely with engineering teams to implement Infrastructure as Code (IaC), Kubernetes, and cloud-native solutions for efficient and scalable platform management.

Team Development

• Foster a culture of innovation, continuous learning, and collaboration within the engineering team.
• Provide mentorship and technical guidance to engineers, focusing on platform architecture, API design, and system scalability.

What You Will Need

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience strongly preferred.
• 8+ years of engineering experience in fast-paced environments.
• 4+ years managing development teams, preferably distributed ones.
• 4+ years building and managing RESTful APIs and API management platforms.
• 3+ years working in cloud-native environments such as AWS or Azure.
• Familiarity with the MERN or MEAN stack, PHP, or Python.
• Experience with modern CMS platforms (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, Contentful).
• Proficiency in CDN technologies.
• Hands-on experience in developing and managing decoupled applications.
• Knowledge of API requirements, including analytics, throttling, caching, logging, and response modifications.
• Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver projects on time.
• Experience mentoring and coaching engineers, fostering team collaboration.
• Track record of effectively working with cross-functional teams, including product owners, operations, security, and data engineering.
• Exceptional analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Self-starter with a strong commitment to continuous improvement.
