The Discord Product Creative Team is seeking an exceptional Senior UI Motion Designer with expertise in motion graphics and digital experiences. The ideal candidate is a master of their craft, blending technical precision to create engaging and functional motion experiences. You'll play a key role in enhancing the user experience by seamlessly integrating motion into product design, making interactions more intuitive, delightful, and engaging. We’re looking for someone who can independently craft compelling motion experiences, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and provide clear direction and feedback to vendors.
What You'll Be Doing
- Collaborate with product designers and engineers to develop motion experiences that enhance usability and delight users.
- Conceptualize, storyboard, and animate functional UI motion that improves the user journey.
- Design motion systems that adhere to design principles, accessibility standards, and product constraints.
- Execute a wide range of animation styles (UI transitions, micro-interactions, motion graphics, etc.), showcasing an eye for detail and fluid timing.
- Partner closely with engineers to implement animations using tools such as Adobe Suite, Lottie, Rive, and Figma.
- Ensure animations are optimized for performance across various platforms and devices.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapting to shifting priorities while maintaining quality.
- Provide constructive feedback on the work of peers and vendors to elevate creative output.
What you should have
- A portfolio showcasing strong UI motion design skills and experience, demonstrating a diverse range of motion graphics applications. Your work should include expressive, storytelling-driven animations and captivating visuals that highlight both functional UI motion and broader motion design expertise.
- 6+ years of experience in motion design, ideally in the tech or product design space.
- You are an expert in motion principles, composition, timing, and easing.
- You are highly proficient in Adobe After Effects, Lottie, Rive, and Figma.
- You understand how motion enhances product usability and engagement.
- You work effectively with designers, engineers, and other stakeholders.
- You can articulate the rationale behind motion decisions and present creative concepts confidently.
- You are receptive to constructive feedback and iterate quickly to achieve the desired outcome.
- You are team-oriented, humble, and bring a positive attitude to your work.
What you should have
- Experience with 3D software such as Cinema 4D, Blender, or Maya.
- Knowledge of web-based animation frameworks (GSAP, Three.js, WebGL).
- Familiarity with accessibility principles for motion in digital experiences.

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $x168,000 to $185,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
