The Senior Train Control Engineer will be responsible for the design, integration, testing, and maintenance of train control, signaling, and related safety systems for Light Rail. This position involves ensuring the reliability and functionality of advanced control systems to maintain safe and efficient rail operations.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
System Design & Configuration - Develop system requirements and functional specifications for train control and signaling systems (e.g., CBTC, ATP, wayside signaling). Oversee design reviews, interface definitions, and system architecture.
Project Coordination - Coordinate with civil, track, power, and communications teams to ensure integration of train control systems with overall rail infrastructure. Manage scope, schedules, and budgets, resolving technical issues with vendors and consultants.
Installation & Commissioning - Provide technical oversight during installation and commissioning of train control equipment, including interlockings and cab signaling. Conduct field testing, acceptance testing, and coordinate system cutover activities.
What You'll Do:
- Performs independent technical reviews, makes recommendations, and provides technical guidance as requested on complex or unusual engineering projects. Provides direction to resolve technical issues as requested.
- Provides technical expertise and advice to project leadership, and mentoring/support to production staff.
- Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation on complex or unusual projects within discipline.
- Coordinates technical aspects with client counterpart and teaming partners at local leadership level for work within and across disciplines on complex or unusual projects.
- Develops and advises on technical consistency within and across disciplines on processes and projects. Ensures same standard and practices are being applied.
- Recruits, hires, develops and retains staff of discipline-specific team, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession. Coordinates schedules and approves timecards. Collaborates with Sections and Departments within the office on work-sharing needs and opportunities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You'll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 12 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in relevant field and 11 years of relevant experience, or
- PhD in relevant field and 10 years of relevant experience
What We Prefer:

Master’s degree in Engineering

20 years relevant experience
-
Professional Engineer (PE) certification
-
American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) certification (depending on discipline)

The approximate pay range for the Greater Seattle, WA Metro Area is $168,853.83 - $269,727.55. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
