About the Team:
The Fund Accounting team is a high performing team responsible for the internal fund administration for several Mutual Fund Trusts and Limited Partnerships.
Purpose of the Role:
As the Senior Tax Specialist, you will be the go-to resource for internal and external stakeholders relating to all tax matters and deliverables for a diverse portfolio of proprietary mutual funds and Limited Partnerships.
This role reports to the Director, Fund Accounting and will operate on a hybrid working model and based in Toronto or Vancouver.
Core Responsibilities:
- Be the go-to tax resource in the organization as it relates to funds and LPs, with working knowledge of client’s tax issues relating to the funds.
- Possess a strong understanding of the unique characteristics of our funds and corporate structure and a subject matter expert within the team on technical tax-related matters.
- Co-ordinate, contribute to and manage tax due diligence on new investment opportunities with Portfolio Managers in conjunction with external tax advisors.
- Manage and complete various documents relating to tax.
- Perform tax research and prepare technical memos for internal use.
- Support the identification and documentation of key internal controls and policies regarding tax.
- Support the tax slip cycle, ensuring all clients’ T3, T5013, NR4, and RL-16 slips are free from misstatement and are distributed in a timely manner.
- Review annual U.S. & Canadian trust, partnership, corporate income tax, and GST tax returns
- Support and complete various other tax initiatives and completing tax forms as required e.g. PFIC reporting, FATCA/CRS compliance etc.
- Build and maintain excellent working relationships with external service providers, including our fund administrator, auditor, tax advisor etc.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, with experience in public practice, financial services or in investment industry preferred.
- Exposure to various asset classes (including private capital & real estate) and fund structures (specifically Mutual Fund Trusts & LPs).
- Undergraduate degree and professional accounting designation.
- Completion of, or working towards, CPA In-Depth Tax Program (IDTP) preferred.
- A solid understanding Canadian and/or US tax, with cross-border tax compliance preferred.
- Strong analytical and mathematical ability.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship management skills.
- Project management skills and an excellent ability to multi-task efficiently.
- Skilled collaborator and a desire to help audiences with varied degrees of technical expertise.
Compensation & Benefits Package:
This position comes with a competitive base salary hiring range of $90,000 - $110,000; dependent on experience, skills, qualifications and internal equity.
