The Senior Tax Accountant is accountable for the collection of tax-related information, reporting to taxation authorities at the federal, state, county, and local levels in a timely manner, and advising management on the tax impact of various corporate strategies. The Senior Tax Accountant also assists in closing the company books each month, ensuring accurate monthly financial data.
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana; we are seeking candidates that currently reside in the central Indiana region; within approximately a 70 mile range of Indianapolis. Our Central (Corporate) Office is located on the northwest side of Indianapolis. Position is a hybrid (a mix of remote & in-office, as well as any necessary business travel).

Responsibilities
Prepare Tax Filings (30%)
- File federal, state, and local tax documents by preparing property tax returns, federal, state, and municipal returns, extensions, and quarterly payments
- File monthly, quarterly, and annual sales tax filings
- Complete required tax reporting in a timely manner
- Maintain compliance with regulations by forwarding required information to federal, state, and local authorities. Prepares tax provision schedules by reviewing, preparing, and consolidating provision schedules
Perform Tax Research (25%)
- Research the basis for tax positions to be taken
- Advise management on the impact of new laws on tax liabilities
- Advise management regarding the tax impact of corporate strategies
- Recommend tax strategies to defer or eliminate tax payments by researching federal, state, and local taxation issues.
Other Tax Responsibilities (25%)
- Coordinate audits by various taxation authorities Coordinate outsourced tax preparation work Identify and mitigate tax risks
- Various tax projects as they arise
Reconcile General Ledger Accounts (20%)
- Perform month end closing procedures Reconcile accrual accounts
- Communicate with management to ensure proper expense
Leadership: Provide clear direction to ensure collective achievement of goals and objectives. Create an environment of respect, collaboration, and open communication.
Associate Development: Identify and support development needs of direct reports and team members including connecting them to resources both internally and externally to ensure a culture of continuous improvement.
Associate Engagement: Create high levels of employee engagement by understanding organizational and personal drivers that impact drivers and developing action plans that deliver increased engagement.
Performance Management: Set clear goals and expectations for teams, monitor, and enable performance and intervene with appropriate action when performance gaps occur and provide timely, honest feedback. Ensure that associates complete assigned actions by required deadlines.

Skills and Experience
- Minimum 3-year experience in public accounting and tax
- Experience in closing the books, financial systems analysis
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) required
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel) required
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form. Analytical thinking skills to perform analysis and develop accurate conclusions
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
Education and Qualifications
- Associates degree in accounting or equivalent experience required; Bachelors degree preferred. CPA and/or MPA preferred
