At Backbase we aim to deliver a turn-key Data as a Service (DaaS) platform built on top of the Azure Databricks technology. The DaaS platform will enable customers from Backbase to run analytical, AI and ML workloads on data stored in the Engagement Banking Platform without affecting the operational state of the systems.
We expect you to have proven expertise with installing, maintaining and scaling the Databricks clusters.
As a Senior System Engineer(DevOps) you’ll get a chance to contribute to building an enterprise-grade “Data as a Service” platform from scratch and maintaining it.
You'll lay down the foundation of a secure, robust data platform and related processes.
We expect you to follow and apply industry standards ensuring stability and scalability while remaining cost efficient.
Meet the Job
You will be part of the crossfunctional team building and maintaining the Data as a Service platform.
You’ll be working alongside the group of Data, System, Security and Software engineers.
Your day to day job will consist of building and maintaining performance and reliability of the Data platform. We expect you to become our go to expert in the topic of resource utilisation, cost optimisation, performance tuning, data isolation.
Our teams are continuously busy with improving their product with the motto "You build it, you run it". Striving to have the highest possible uptime, great performance and best in class levels of security. That's quite an ambition and you can't get there without an automation first approach.
As a Senior System Engineer you design things but you also build and maintain them.
You’ll maintain the Infrastructure as Code for Data as a Service platform either by contributing PR's yourself or by reviewing the work of others.
You'll also get a chance to actively participate in the refining of the architecture as decisions are taken by the team. For our customers that are already running in production you will also be on call for which we strive to not trigger any alerts but we'd rather focus on automating responses on events that might happen.
Your growth path within Backbase will allow you to grow from the function of Senior System Engineer to a function as Principal System Engineer in which you will be responsible for driving cross team initiatives and you will take on more responsibilities in the overall design of the product.
How about You?
● At least 4 years experience with Databricks infrastructure ( maintaining and scaling, performance tuning, cost optimisation);
● Experience with multi tenant installation in Databricks is a big plus;
● Experience of building, scaling and maintaining Data platform on public cloud (preferably Azure);
● Experience with monitoring, metrics: Prometheus, Grafana, Azure Monitor;
● You have experience in programming and automation;
● You are experienced with cloud environments and using desired state configuration to manage them (Terraform/OpenTofu is preferred);
● At least 5 years in a similar role running workloads on public cloud;
● Knowledge of Gitops / ArgoCD is plus;
● You're not afraid to use CLI based tooling and you have experience in maintaining and troubleshooting Linux based operating systems;
● You don't want to just report the problems but you want to fix them;
● You have strong communication skills.
