At Wisk, we're transforming the future of urban mobility through safe, all-electric, autonomous flight. We are a passionate team working together toward a sustainable future, solving high-impact problems that have never been solved before. By delivering everyday flight for everyone, we're making it possible to spend less time getting there and more time being there. If you want to be part of shaping the future of mobility, then read on!
We are looking for a Senior Staff Simulation Engineer to join our Flight Physics Vehicle Modeling (FPVM) Team. The responsibility of this team at Wisk is to design, implement, and analyze our flight physics vehicle model and integrated 6DOF simulation framework. The FPVM Team reports to the Aircraft IPT, which is responsible for verifying the control laws flight software and ensuring our aircraft systems meet requirements and performance objectives. Additionally, this IPT supports the refinement of our simulation models via hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and flight tests.
This is a hybrid work opportunity. At Wisk, this means working onsite at one of our office locations (Mountain View, California, or Montreal, Canada) 3 days per week, with flexibility for the remainder of the days.
What you will do:
- You will take part in conducting simulation and analysis to support aircraft design and certification activities.
- You will support SIL, HIL, and flight operations activities in debugging test anomalies and issues.
- You will help support problem solving activities by taking ownership of features and designing new simulation framework capabilities.
- You will help coordinate and evaluate modeling and simulation results with other teams' SMEs; obtaining a high level of familiarity with our vehicle’s avionics, software architecture, GNC algorithms, and the simulation framework’s analysis tools.
- You will take part in deploying parallelized simulation and analysis capabilities at scale in an HPC environment.
- In some areas, you will be working closely with such teams as, stability & control, power, thermal, and systems engineering to verify requirements that help satisfy aircraft certification objectives.
- You will plan and develop new time and frequency domain flight analysis and post-processing tools using software architecture best practices.
- As a Senior Staff Simulation Engineer, you will help implement new models in our simulation engine using first principles, empirical data, and system identification techniques.
Requirements:
- B.S. or M.S. in Aeronautical/Aerospace Engineering or a related field with at least 12 years of relevant experience
- You have worked a minimum of 5 years on teams modeling and simulating aircraft flight dynamics, aerodynamics, flight controls, GNC and aircraft systems.
- You have hands-on experience developing 6-DoF simulation models to support aircraft design, testing and certification activities.
- You have a deep and applied knowledge with designing, implementing, and analyzing physics-based aviation models and simulation environments.
- You have led teams that developed and validated aircraft models to match flight test data, and supported certification efforts through simulation.
- You have strong MATLAB programming & Simulink modeling skills.
- You have a strong physical modeling background.
- You have experience in the following areas:
- -Aircraft sensors (accelerometers, gyros, magnetometer, GPS, etc.)
- -Fixed wing and rotorcraft aerodynamics and aircraft flight dynamics
- -Flight simulators
- -Subpart B certification rules and means of compliance
- -Flight control or vehicle management systems
- -Model-Based Design (MBD) and MBSE tools/methodologies
- -Simscape physical modeling tools
- -Monte Carlo simulation capabilities, at scale in an HPC environment
- -State estimation and control theory
