Position Overview:
The Senior Staff Accountant will oversee and manage all aspects of the accounting function, including the month and year end close processes, financial reporting, and compliance with accounting standards. As the senior CPA in the organization, you will be responsible for applying technical accounting knowledge to business transactions and ensuring that accounting practices align with company goals and regulatory requirements.

You will collaborate closely with leaders across Finance, HR, IT, and other departments to ensure accurate accounting treatment, resolve issues, and enhance the efficiency of financial processes. This role requires a proactive, hands-on individual who is not only technically skilled but also a strong communicator and collaborator.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Accounting Operations: Own and manage all day-to-day accounting functions, including monthly close, financial reporting, journal entries, account reconciliations, and balance sheet management.
  • Process Improvement: Develop and implement scalable accounting processes, policies, and internal controls to streamline workflows and support business growth.
  • ERP System Optimization: Leverage ERP systems (such as Netsuite) to drive efficiencies in the monthly close process, improve data accuracy, and enhance overall accounting operations.
  • Technical Accounting Expertise: Apply in-depth knowledge of U.S. GAAP and other relevant accounting standards (such as ASC 606) to ensure accurate accounting treatment of business transactions.
  • Financial Reporting & Analysis: Prepare, review, and present monthly financial statements and performance analysis to senior leadership, highlighting key business trends and providing actionable insights.
  • Audit & Tax Compliance: Coordinate with external auditors for year-end audits, ensuring compliance with financial reporting and tax filing requirements.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Act as a trusted business partner, working with departments across the organization to ensure proper accounting treatment of transactions and resolving financial issues as they arise.
  • Mentorship & Team Leadership: Provide guidance and support to junior accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team culture.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify and implement opportunities for process improvements, automation, and reporting efficiencies to support company objectives.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA Certification: Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is required, as this position will serve as the senior CPA in the company.
  • Work Authorization: Must be authorized to work in the United States. The company does not sponsor work visas.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, with experience in applying accounting standards (ASC 606, revenue recognition, etc.) to transactions and financial treatments.
  • Experience: 3+ years of professional accounting experience, ideally in public accounting (Big Four or regional firm) or a senior accounting role in a growing business.
  • ERP Systems & Tools: Proficiency with ERP systems (preferably Netsuite) and advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.).
  • Internal Controls: Strong understanding of internal controls, financial reporting processes, and accounting best practices.
  • Tax & Audit Knowledge: Experience with year-end audit coordination, tax filings, and compliance requirements.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze financial data, identify trends, and provide actionable insights to senior management.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Collaboration: Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative attitude and the ability to work effectively across various functions.
