Job Title: Senior Software Engineer - Mainframe

Impact & contribution
Utilise advanced knowledge of software engineering principles and practices in programming technologies and platforms to achieve business outcomes, draw on core technology and domain knowledge to lead the design, enhancement and maintenance of a technology solution. As Senior Software Engineer - Mainframe, you will be responsible for complex technology initiatives that are companywide with broad impact and accountable for ongoing change and development of the Bank’s highest volume retail transaction switch.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Responsible for the development of strategic programs of work
- Provide technical strategy and guidance and deliver medium to complex Mainframe engineering initiatives.
- Provide advanced technical knowledge and experience to assist in resolving technology issues
- Contribute to strategic programs of work, including proof of concept developments.
- Utilise strong understanding of Payments business and technical strategies to deliver best business outcomes through technical implementation.
- Follow best practices and industry standards in the Team.
- Analyse systems and applications and provide recommendations for enhancement and development
- Contribute to internal online discussion around software engineering, delivery and Mainframe technology.
- Assist with preparation and documentation of deployment and configuration scripts for development, test and production environments
- Troubleshoot complex deployment, environment and production issues.
Essential Skills
- 8+ years of overall IT experience
- A solid and extensive background in IBM mainframe engineering, covering both development and system operations.
- A deep understanding of mainframe technology, capabilities, concepts and features.
- Mastery of Mainframe technologies and tools: COBOL, Assembler (Mandatory), CICS, InterTest, Endevor, REXX, VSAM, MQ, Easytrieve, ZOWE, Control-M, Control-D & JCL
- Experience in COBOL upgrade assessment and strategy.
- Knowledge of impact analysis tool ADDI (Application Discovery and Delivery Intelligence).
- Knowledge and experience in Merchant Acquiring, Switching or Cards Acquiring payment standards.
- Knowledge in AS2805, ISO8583, EMV and EFTPOS payment methods.
- COBOL upgrade experience from any lower version to Enterprise COBOL v6 and above.
- Knowledge of modern development methodologies and processes, covering DevOps tooling and approaches, and how they can be applied to mainframe environments.
- A willingness to adapt to our development practices (Agile, TDD) and work across all SDLC phases including analysis, design, development, testing and support of technology assets
Education Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree/master’s degree in engineering in Computer Science/Information Technology or any similar stream
