Job Summary:
Senior Software Engineer contributes to design, development, and deployment of a Caterpillar state-of-the-art digital platform used for Condition Monitoring of Caterpillar machines.
What you will do:

  • Designing, developing, and implementing software programming applications for target system using agile methods; normally assigned the more complex aspects of systems work.
  • Writing source codes for new applications and/or generating and enhancing code samples for existing applications.
  • Working directly on complex application/technical problem identification and resolution.
  • Working independently on complex systems or infrastructure components that may be used by one or more applications or systems.
  • Mentoring and assisting software engineers, providing technical assistance and direction as needed.
  • Maintaining high standards of software quality within the team by establishing good practices and habits.
  • Identifying and encouraging areas for growth and improvement within the team.
  • Guiding the team to develop a structured application/interface code, new program documentation, and operations documentation in a flexible environment.
  • Communicating with end users and internal customers to help direct development, debugging, and testing of application software for accuracy, integrity, interoperability, and completeness.
  • Performing other job duties as assigned by Caterpillar management from time to time.


What you will have:

  • Software Product Design/Architecture: Knowledge of software product design; ability to convert market requirements into the software product design.
  • Software Development: Knowledge of software development tools and activities; ability to produce software products or systems in line with product requirements
  • Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
  • Software Product Technical Knowledge: Knowledge of technical aspects of a software products; ability to design, configure and integrate technical aspects of software products
  • Software Integration Engineering: Knowledge of software integration processes and functions; ability to design, develop and maintain interfaces and linkage to alternative platforms and software packages.


Consideration for top candidates:

  • Eight years or more of experience in designing and developing software applications in .NET
  • Multiple programming languages such as .NET, Java, Python, JavaScript, TypeScript, Angular/NgRx or React
  • Microservices architecture development using Service Fabric, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.
  • Application architectural patterns, such as MVC, microservices, event-driven, etc.
  • Deploying and maintaining software using public clouds such as AWS or Azure.
  • Relational database design using SQL stored procedures
  • Batch or stream processing systems such as Apache Spark, Flink, Akka, Storm.
  • Message brokers such as Kafka, RabbitMQ, AWS SQS, AWS SNS, Apache ActiveMQ, Kinesis.
  • Telematics experience

Summary Pay Range:
$110,520.00 - $179,640.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
