Software Engineering, Growth @ Clay
As a software engineer on the Growth engineering team, you’ll rapidly test strategies to improve user activation and retention in the product. Improving these metrics is a top line business priority for Clay, as we strive to enable all users to get the most value from our product. You’ll work closely with product, data, and design to establish hypothesis, then implement big-swing product experiments aimed at data-driven learning. One such example is a new onboarding flow that guides users to set up their first tables in sequential wizards that are tailored to specific use cases. You’ll also also own product improvements to address known friction points. This role is an exciting opportunity to fuel Clay’s growth through fast-paced iteration and to measurably improve user activation and retention.
What You'll Do
-
Rapidly build experiments, then iterate based on results. You will work with our product, design, and data teams to establish big-swing hypotheses then rapidly build prototype solutions to test them out. Based on the results, you’ll then iterate on the solution, add polish, and roll it out to all users.
-
Ship product improvements to address known friction points. You will regularly contribute improvements across the entire product surface to address known friction points in the user experience. These improvements collectively impact our activation and retention, by reducing time to value and increasing discoverability of Clay’s power and flexibility.
-
Own growth product features. The growth engineering team owns the onboarding flows, product home page, incentivization mechanisms, and more, continually contributing improvements in service of activation and retention.
-
Work full-stack, with a bias towards frontend development. Many of our growth experiments and product improvements are full-stack but weighted more frontend, due to the user-facing nature of the team’s mission.
What You'll Bring
-
You have a proven track record of execution. You have 4+ years of hands on full-stack engineering experience as a software engineer in production environments.
-
You move quickly and love shipping MVPs, then polishing later. You thrive on quickly turning hypothesis into MVPs for experimentation, then digging into the learnings. You identify the areas - both design-wise and technically - that you will revisit to productionize if the experiment is successful, then are eager to take on that work when the time comes.
-
You have a strong product sense and enjoy thinking about the user experience. You enjoy collaborating with your product and data teammates to come up with hypotheses and proposed solutions, blending creativity and a data-driven approach. You are confident making tradeoffs about which solutions will move the needle, and what’s “good enough” when building an experiment.
-
You’re familiar with our current tech stack or can learn unfamiliar technologies quickly. Our primary stack is Typescript, React, Node.js, and AWS services: Aurora (Postgres), Elasticache (Redis), Elastic Container Registry (ECR), ECS (Fargate), Lambda, OpenSearch.
-
Bonus: you understand sales and marketing workflows or have past experience in the sales and marketing industries.
