Senior Software Engineer - Ground Segment

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

Join us as a Senior Software Engineer - Ground Segment, where you’ll develop mission-critical software that powers our integrated testing and mission operations. You will primarily work on our Mission Control Software and build auxiliary tools to support our Flight Controllers.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Senior Software Engineer - Ground Segment you will:

• Develop responsive and robust Ground Segment software solutions

• Own and deliver the entire software development lifecycle

• Build software that scales effectively with TEC's expanding mission

• Partner with engineering, testing, and operations teams to understand and meet needs

• Write performant, maintainable, and well-documented code

• Ensure reliability through rigorous automated and manual testing

• Mentor less experienced team members and support end-users

What we would love to see from you

The ideal candidate will have:

• Proficiency in at least one object-oriented programming language like C#, Java, or similar

• Solid experience with Python and/or Ruby (on Rails)

• Proficiency in working with Redis for real-time data (Redis Streams, Redis Time Series)

• Familiarity with object storage solutions (e.g., MinIO, AWS S3) for handling large data sets

• Hands-on experience with relational or time-series database technologies

• Experience with version control systems like Git or SVN

• Familiarity with test automation frameworks

• Ability to design, build, and maintain scalable, distributed systems

• Solid understanding of software design patterns and best practices

• Hands-on experience with agile software development methodologies

• Motivation to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines

• High attention to detail with an ability to balance quality & speed

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Bonus qualifications:

• Experience with public cloud providers such as AWS or Azure

• Front-end experience in React, Vue, or similar frameworks

• Familiarity with containerization and CI/CD pipelines

• Space industry experience
