The Aurora Driver will create a new era in mobility and logistics, one that will bring a safer, more efficient, and more accessible future to everyone.
At Aurora, you'll solve massively complex problems alongside other passionate, smart people, growing as an expert while broadening your field of knowledge. For Aurora’s latest news, visit aurora.tech or follow us on LinkedIn.
Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all. We’re searching for a Senior Software Engineer to join Aurora’s Compute Workflows team.
The Compute Workflows team develops the frameworks and tooling on top of Aurora’s core compute and cloud services. We enable the creation, execution, management, monitoring, and support for Aurora’s critical and massive-scale compute and data pipelines backing the Aurora Driver, Aurora’s core self-driving software product. This includes things like developer code change testing and gating, Aurora Driver release pipelines, Autonomy behavior change testing, Machine Learning model training, and other key workflows that involve running millions of tasks, on hundreds of thousands of cores, and producing TBs of data every day. Hundreds of engineers rely on these systems every day to generate datasets, test their code, land changes and validate the performance of the Driver. We work closely with multiple, cross-functional teams like Simulation, Autonomy, Systems & Safety, and Technology Foundation teams like Data Platforms and Compute/MLOps to ensure we meet the needs of users and the organization in terms of reliability, performance, scale, and efficiency.
In this role, you will
- Design and develop large, distributed batch execution, data collection and processing services in the cloud
- Consult with teams across the Simulation, Autonomy, Systems Engineering, and Vehicle Platform groups to ensure their compute needs are being met and help guide strategic decisions on frameworks and technology to do so.
- Collaborate with teams across the Simulation, Autonomy, Systems Engineering, and Vehicle Platform groups to help them get the signal they need from offline testing to assess autonomy performance
- Propose new code designs and write technical design documents
- Lead key projects for the team
- Drive tactical and strategic technical decisions for the team
- Mentor junior team members and maintain engineering excellence
Required Qualifications
- BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field, or equivalent industry experience and 4+ years of experience as a software engineer.
- Experience with large scale distributed systems or microservice architectures
- Strong programming skills in modern languages like Golang, Python, C++, Java
- A passion for writing robust, intuitive, high-performance code
- Ability to navigate and work effectively in large codebases
- Strong software development background demonstrated by industry experience in production web, mobile, SaaS or cloud computing
Desirable Qualifications
- Experience in Big Data systems and/or relational databases
- Experience using and deploying AWS resources and services
- Performance optimization for large-scale systems for latency/throughput/cost efficiency
- Familiar with web application development
- Comfortable with Linux/other Unix environments
