About the Team
The Location Experiences team at Life360 is responsible for keeping families and extended communities connected. Our team drives engagement and retention through fast, insightful, and delightful interactions. We own the Life360 App Experience—crafting polished, location-driven features and frameworks for People, Pets, and Things—and the People Experience, delivering real-time insights that help families stay coordinated and close, even when apart. Additionally, we empower broader communities with innovative, context-based location services that enable support and interaction beyond the inner circle.
About the Job
We’re hiring a Staff Back End Cloud Developer to help power the Life360 experience, where we keep families and extended communities connected. In this role, you'll lead the design and development of robust and scalable Cloud systems in Java that are built to handle heavy loads while remaining adaptable to evolving product demands.
Working closely with mobile and web engineers, you will spearhead coordinated efforts with our Architecture and Product teams, ensuring rapid and reliable development as we expand the business. You will also collaborate with Engineering Managers, the Director of Engineering, and fellow Staff Engineers to define and execute our technical roadmap.

The Canadian based salary range is 195,500 to 230,000 CAD. We take into consideration an individual's background and experience in determining final salary- therefore, base pay offered may vary considerably depending on geographic location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The compensation package includes a wide range of medical, dental, vision, financial, and other benefits, as well as equity.
What You’ll Do
- Create new Spring Java micro services to support new product features
- Create new API gateways to enable external integration
- Horizontally scale our system to handle another 10+ billion events per day
- Monitor health, suggest improvements for and deploy your own services
- Example: Build the next generation of our event streaming architecture to handle billions of events per day storing up to trillions of events in cold storage
- Example: Build a system to support a richer dialog when checking in to a place
- Providing technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to engineers across multiple teams.
- Handle on call rotation and address live incidents
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, related field or equivalent practical experience
- 8+ years of experience programming in Java, PHP, Python, or other formal programming language
- Expert level experience managing medium to large scale deployments on AWS (~5000 instances, 50+ accounts)
- Expert level experience with Infrastructure as code tools: Terraform, CloudFormation; config management/provisioning tools: Ansible, Chef, etc.
- Strong Kubernetes experience deploying and running at scale (10k+ containers)
- Strong Build / Automation / CI/CD experience
- Proficient in multi-threaded design and implementation
- Database knowledge is a plus to have
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a highly collaborative working style. Excellent verbal and written communication skills
