The Institutional Product Group engineers create and maintain a suite of products catering to institutional customers of all sizes from Hedge Funds (Coinbase Prime) to experienced individual traders (Coinbase Advanced Trade) and everything in between. Additional Products include Prime - Custody Only, Prime Web3 Wallet, Commerce and Exchange. Whether the customer needs are trading, staking, governance, custody, web3 operations, or API integrations, Coinbase Institutional has them covered.
The Coinbase Exchange (CBE) team is responsible for developing and managing the core services of the US Spot Exchange platform, including Matching Engines, OMS, FIX, and MD gateways as well as an ecosystem of products such as Lending, USDC trading, and RFQ, that are very critical to enabling numerous internal products and serving thousands of institutional and retail customers, both directly and indirectly. Our team tackles some of the most demanding scale and performance challenges, spurred by a near 5x increase in trading volumes due to the dynamic Crypto market landscape, as we continuously strive to refine the platform's latency down to the microsecond.
Currently, we are also pioneering the future of Exchange by redesigning many essential services using low-latency, event-driven architectures, and garbage collection-free coding practices while executing our diverse product roadmap. This role, as part of the Trading Systems team within CBE, will play a key role in both enhancing our current offerings as well as shaping future architectural advancements.
What you’ll be doing (ie. job duties):
- Build and enhance services to meet critical product and business needs using Java, Golang and RDS Postgres.
- Design scalable high volume and low-latency systems to solve novel problems with modern cloud technology and industry best practices.
- Work with other engineers, designers and product managers to turn our product and technical vision into a tangible roadmap every quarter.
- Write high quality, well tested code to meet the needs of your customers.
- Maintain production services and Database infrastructure
What we look for in you:
- You have at least 5 years of experience in software engineering.
- You’ve designed, built, scaled and maintained critical low-latency production services, and know how to compose a service oriented architecture.
- You’ve good awareness of at least one of the major SQL or No-SQL databases - Postgres, SQL Server, Oracle, MongoDB; and interest in optimizing and maintaining them
- You’re passionate about building an open financial system that brings the world together.
Nice to haves:
- You have built trading systems or matching engines that have high volume and low latency characteristics
- You are familiar with developing event driven architectures, GC free coding approaches
- You have gone through a rapid growth in your company (from startup to mid-size).
- You have interest in the End-to-End services infrastructure inc
- You have experience with Blockchain technology (such as Bitcoin, Ethereum etc..)
- You have experience decomposing a large monolith into microservices.
- You’ve worked with Golang, Java, Docker, Kubernetes, Postgres and MongoDB.
- You’ve built financial, high reliability or security systems.

Pay Transparency Notice: Depending on your work location, the target annual salary for this position can range as detailed below. Full time offers from Coinbase also include target bonus + target equity + benefits (including medical, dental, vision and 401(k)).
Pay Range:
$186,005—$218,900 USD
