About the team:

We are expanding our AI Engineering Team to build next-generation AI-powered development workflows. Our goal is to enable AI-assisted full-stack development, allowing users to describe their applications in natural language and have AI generate, modify, and enhance their apps seamlessly.

As a Senior Back End Engineer, you will help define and build the future of AI-powered development at Bubble. You’ll work on LLM-driven product features, design Agentic workflows, and develop private models trained on proprietary Bubble datasets. You will collaborate closely with Product, Infrastructure, and Research teams to push the limits of AI-driven development.
In This Role You'll:

• Design, build, and maintain robust, scalable backend services and APIs that power AI-driven experiences in the Bubble platform.

• Develop the infrastructure that allows LLMs to interact with and modify app state via Bubble’s JSON-based application model.

• Collaborate with product and frontend teams to ship user-facing AI tools that help users build, edit, and understand apps via natural language.

• Integrate third-party AI services (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic) and ensure their outputs are safely and effectively incorporated into the user workflow.

• Drive backend engineering best practices including observability, testing, performance tuning, and security.

• Contribute to shaping the architecture of the AI platform, ensuring it’s maintainable, extensible, and production-ready.
  

About You:

• 5+ years of experience as a software engineer, preferably in AI/ML, backend systems, or high-growth startups.

• Strong back end development skills in TypeScript (Node.js) and/or Python, with a deep understanding of building reliable and scalable services

• Comfortable working across system boundaries — e.g., orchestrating workflows, managing data pipelines, or working with LLM APIs.

• Familiar with distributed systems, performance optimization, and designing clean API interfaces.

• Experience with cloud-native environments, ideally AWS (ECS, Lambda, CDK/Terraform), Postgres, Redis.

• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, user-focused mindset.

• Alignment with Bubble’s mission to democratize software creation and empower builders of all backgrounds.

• Bonus: Exposure to AI/ML tooling (e.g., LangChain, vector databases) or experience integrating with LLM APIs.

Compensation:

We offer competitive compensation aligned to tier one markets. Our estimated salary for this role at Bubble ranges from $157,000 to $213,000. Actual pay is determined by multiple factors such as skills, qualifications, experience and market demand.

Location: 

For this role, Bubble is currently only considering candidates who are authorized to work in the US and are within the New York City metro area.

We prefer hiring people within commuting distance of our NYC office because we value getting together in person regularly. For those who enjoy working from our Manhattan office on a more regular basis, we offer catered lunches, and happy hours, among other fun perks.
