What we’re looking for
As a Senior Site Reliability Engineer at SurveyMonkey, you will be a key member of the Infrastructure team, responsible for designing, engineering, and maintaining our Cloud, Messaging, and Observability platforms. You will play a critical role in developing best practices, defining deployment processes, and ensuring the stability and scalability of our multi-tenant AWS environments. This role is an exciting opportunity to build world-class infrastructure, solve complex problems at scale, and mentor other engineers while working with cutting-edge cloud technologies.
What you’ll be working on
- Architect, build, and operate AWS environments at scale following well-established industry best practices.
- Automate infrastructure provisioning, DevOps processes, and continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD).
- Support and maintain AWS services, including EKS, EC2, IAM, Kafka, Redis, and CloudWatch.
- Develop libraries and APIs to provide a seamless interface for developers using our monitoring, logging, and event-processing systems.
- Improve and enhance our observability systems to monitor site stability, performance, and reliability.
- Collaborate closely with developers to support new features and services.
- Act as a technical mentor, sharing knowledge and best practices across teams.
- Participate in an on-call rotation to maintain system availability and performance.
We’d love to hear from people with
- 5-8+ years of professional experience in a relevant field, with a strong engineering background.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS services such as EKS, EC2, IAM, Kafka, Redis, and CloudWatch.
- Experience deploying and operating Kubernetes clusters using kops or similar tools.
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Heroku, Google Cloud, or Azure.
- Familiarity with observability tools like Splunk, OpenTelemetry, New Relic, Datadog, and Grafana/Prometheus.
- Strong knowledge of metrics and logging libraries, data aggregation, and visualization tools.
- Expertise in infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
- Strong understanding of containerization and orchestration using Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with GitOps practices and tools like ArgoCD or FluxCD.
- Proficiency in systems automation languages such as Bash, Go, Groovy, Java, Python, and YAML.
- Experience instrumenting PHP, Java, Python, and Node.js applications for observability.
- Familiarity with database and caching technologies like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Elasticsearch, Memcached, Redis, and Kafka.
- Familiarity with GitHub, GitHub Actions, GitLab, and Jenkins in software engineering or DevOps contexts.
- Preferably experienced with secrets management tools like HashiCorp Vault.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across systems, networks, and application code.
- Experience working in Agile environments with tools like JIRA.
