Senior Scientist - Pfizer Oncology, ADC chemistry Bothell, WA
ROLE SUMMARY
We are looking for a highly motivated and collaborative researcher to join our ADC chemistry team in a lab-based role to support novel Antibody Drug Conjugate (ADC) discovery research and development. The successful candidate will develop analytical and purification solutions to support a synthetic chemistry team, with a particular focus on applying HPLC-MS and preparative HPLC approaches to characterize and purify complex drug-linkers.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain, calibrate, and troubleshoot a suite of open-access UPLC/MS and preparatory HPLC systems in an early-stage discovery chemistry laboratory.
  • Coordinate with internal lab operations and service engineers when necessary (e.g., significant hardware repairs, annual preventative maintenance).
  • Operate a variety of chromatography instruments and provide subject matter expertise to enable purity assessment and concentration validation of complex synthetic molecules, as well as develop fit for purpose walk-up methods to assess drug-linker reactivity.
  • Optimize workflows that accelerate open access preparative-scale HPLC purification of synthetic intermediates and final compounds.
  • Collaborate with the synthetic chemistry team to develop custom-tailored approaches for challenging separations.
  • Ensure data is readily available to end-users and properly archived through cross-functional coordination with IT and data management teams.
  • Interact with partners in development roles (e.g., process chemistry, GxP functions) to align strategies and ensure efficient data transfer as projects progress to IND-enabling studies.
  • Actively participate in training colleagues on the proper use of new equipment and technologies.
  • Adhere to all company safety, scientific record keeping, and compliance requirements.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree and 9+ years experience; Master's Degree and 7+ years of experience; or PhD and 0-3 years experience
  • Experience working in a small molecule purifications group, preferably in collaboration with a discovery and/or lead optimization chemistry team.
  • Extensive experience in maintaining UPLC-MS and preparative HPLC instrumentation and deployment of fit-for-purpose work flows.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams, learn new skills and proactively identify and address analytical challenges.
  • Experience developing new analytical LC-MS methods for walk-up applications.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and effective written/verbal communication.
  • Enthusiasm to work within a team-oriented environment with accelerated timelines

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience identifying and implementing new technologies that facilitate analysis and purification of small molecules.
  • Familiarity with Waters software, as well as preparatory and analytical UPLC systems and mass spectrometers.
  • Experience maintaining and utilizing mass-directed preparative HPLC.
  • Experience working with antibody analytics and/or quantitative bioanalytical analysis via HPLC-MS/MS.
  • Experience with automation of parallel sample management and data processing, including basic programming skills
