You will join a team developing state-of-the-art general-purpose robots designed to operate in human spaces and with human tools. It is designed to work alongside humans, mobilize to human spaces, and manipulate the world around it.

JOB SUMMARY

The Perception team is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Robotics Software Engineer to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience developing software for robotic systems. You will play a critical role in designing, developing, and optimizing software that powers cutting-edge robotics solutions, with a particular focus on working with RGBD and LiDAR sensors.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES or KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Develop and implement software systems for autonomous robots, ensuring robust and scalable solutions.
  • Design, integrate, and optimize sensor systems, including RGBD and LiDAR sensors, to enhance robot perception and navigation.
  • Work on developing and deploying robotics applications with ROS1 and ROS2 frameworks, ensuring smooth integration of hardware and software components.
  • Perform sensor evaluations and selection processes, ensuring the optimal sensors for specific use cases are chosen based on performance, cost, and requirements.
  • Collaborate with hardware engineers, system architects, and other software engineers to deliver a cohesive and high-performance robotics solution.
  • Continuously improve the performance, reliability, and functionality of robotics software and systems.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize software for real-world robotics applications.
  • Develop algorithms for processing and fusing sensor data (including RGBD and LiDAR data) to enable accurate localization, mapping, and object detection.
  • Stay up to date with the latest developments in robotics, computer vision, and sensor technology to ensure the team leverages the most effective tools and techniques.

SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience with ROS1 and ROS2 in the context of robotic software development.
  • Experience working with RGBD and LiDAR sensors.
  • Strong proficiency in C++ and Python for developing and implementing robotics algorithms.
  • Hands-on experience with sensor fusion, point cloud processing, and 3D perception.
  • Experience with developing and testing algorithms for either SLAM or perception.
  • Solid understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and agile methodologies.
  • Experience developing and debugging real-time, multithreaded software systems
  • Rapid, real-world hardware experimentation and troubleshooting abilities
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills to work effectively across teams and stakeholders.
  • (Preferred) Experience with machine learning techniques for robotics, such as object detection, classification
  • (Preferred) Experience with Gazebo and MuJoCo simulator development

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Robotics software development experience of 6+ years with a Bachelor's degree or 4+ years with a Master's degree.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, version control systems (Git), and automated testing frameworks is preferred.
