The Opportunity

In Abbott’s Electrophysiology (EP) business, we’re advancing the treatment of heart disease through breakthrough medical technologies in atrial fibrillation, allowing people to restore their health and get on with their lives.

We are seeking a high caliber, experienced R&D Engineer to provide technical expertise through the planning and execution of high-profile, product quality improvement and product cost reduction projects related to electrophysiology catheters.

What You’ll Work On

  • Provides technical leadership for multiple product design and manufacturing quality improvement and product cost reduction projects related to electrophysiology catheters

  • Establish design and process requirements for electrophysiology catheter components

  • Run empirical and experimental analysis utilizing various analytical design tools to support design improvements and cost reduction efforts

  • Prepare technical reports, analysis, recommendations, and presentations reflecting the status and results of technical studies in progress

  • Partner with Project Management, Design Assurance, and other functional peers to execute key projects and deliver significant multi-year savings

  • Research various cost-effective, alternative approaches to current designs and processes

  • Directs support personnel and coordinates project activities

  • Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate R&D-related project tasks and activities

  • Test method and fixture development

  • Reviews and provides functional approval for project and quality system documentation.

  • Support all Divisional initiatives as identified by divisional management and in support of Quality Management Systems (QMS), Environmental Management Systems (EMS), and other regulatory requirements

  • Complies with U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, other regulatory requirements, Company policies, operating procedures, processes, and task assignments.  Maintains positive and cooperative communications and collaboration with all levels of employees, customers, contractors, and vendors.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree in a related field - preferably in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering

  • Equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Medical device development and/or other highly regulated industry

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in a related field - preferably in Mechanical or Biomedical Engineering

  • Design, manufacturing or process development experience related to one or more of the following technologies: high precision machining, injection molding, stamping, rolling, die cutting, polymer extrusions & bonds, soldering, welding, coatings and component specifications

  • Demonstrated success in executing design and process changes to on-market products in a regulated environment

  • Project leadership and management skills

  • Strong verbal and written communications with ability to effectively communicate at multiple levels in the organization

  • Ability to work within a team and as an individual contributor in a fast-paced, changing environment.

  • Ability to multitask, prioritize and meet deadlines

  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills

The base pay for this position is

$86,700.00 – $173,300.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
