Get to Know the Team

Working alongside the Geo Tech Family, Transport, Deliveries, and other tech families, the Product Operations is a lean team and will work closely with various cross-functional teams and stakeholders to drive strategic projects in Southeast Asia.

Get to Know the Role

As the Senior Product and Map Operations Leader, you will be vital to the GEO and Product Tech families. In this role, you will lead the day-to-day operations, planning, and overseeing the smooth running of geo operations to ensure our objectives and goals are met. You will supervise and collaborate with teams across different departments, providing constructive feedback and fostering a collaborative environment.

You will be tasked with setting strategic visions and operationalizing them using industry best practices. As a leader, you will drive innovation within the team, fostering an environment that encourages ideation and the development of efficient project management strategies.

Your focus on data quality will be crucial, and your ability to handle strategic projects, even beyond the scope of Geo, will be highly valued. You will manage and coordinate the operations of our mapping team, ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality maps.

In addition, you will drive regional mapping initiatives, and your ability to take on strategic projects outside of Geo will be paramount.


The Critical Tasks You Will Perform

  • Oversee daily operations of the mapping team, ensuring high-quality map delivery.
  • Lead team leads on data analysis and innovative reporting to support mapping initiatives.
  • Coordinate with vendors and monitor project progress for timely and accurate completion.
  • Develop team members' skills in the mapping process for efficiency and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive regional mapping projects.
  • Conduct local and regional training sessions, perform quality checks, and handle translation and transcription where needed.
  • Collect, monitor, and analyze large sets of geo data using proprietary software and internal tools.
  • Develop strategies to improve map data quality and efficiency.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement within the mapping team.
  • Manage and lead a lean team from mapping and product operations.
  • Plan and execute production activities and motivate the team to accomplish these plans.
  • Implement and enforce production and central processes across the organization.
  • Establish, monitor, and enforce quality standards.
  • Identify employee training needs and other performance, progress, and growth requirements.
  • Liaise with leadership to make decisions for operational activities, strategic goals, and budgets.
  • Supervise staff from cross-cultural markets, provide constructive feedback, and set a positive leadership example.
  • Evaluate the efficiency of mapping procedures and implement improvements.
  • Revise and/or formulate policies and promote their implementation.
  • Evaluate department performance by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting data and metrics.
  • Ensure compliance with legal and established map industry regulations.
  • Champion proficiency for current industry practices, including productivity, quality, planning, and culture.
  • Adhere to Grab's confidentiality procedures and data collection, storage, and sharing policies.

Qualifications

The Essential Skills You Will Need

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, IT, Geography, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in data processing, geospatial analysis, automation processes, and project management in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in QGIS/ArcGIS, SQL, Python, and Google App Script, and solid working experience in generative AI.
  • Extensive knowledge and understanding of open data sources like OpenStreetMap and the mapping industry’s legal rules and guidelines.
  • Detail-oriented, metrics-driven, and an in-depth understanding of how maps influence the product, customer experience, and other business functions.
  • Proven track record of leading teams and driving strategic projects in a high-paced work environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with a focus on team development and mentorship; ideally, should have led a group of 50+ operators.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously with the right balance of delegation and being a servant leader.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact and influence various stakeholders.
  • Experience managing groups from multicultural environments and leading cross-functional teams.
