The role

As a Senior Product Manager part of the Technical Operations & Analytics function (TO&A) you will be a key driver in building and evolving internal platforms and productivity tools that empower Google DeepMind employees across various functions. You will leverage your technical expertise and business acumen to define and lead the strategic product roadmap for TO&A's internal product portfolio, fostering a culture of product management excellence within the team. You will collaborate closely with engineering, UX, program management, data science, and other teams to prioritize and deliver high-impact solutions for the GDM organization. A significant aspect of this role involves deep engagement with internal stakeholders across GDM to understand their needs, gather feedback, and translate those insights into impactful product strategies. You will champion user adoption, analyze usage data, and continuously identify opportunities for improvement and innovation within our internal tool ecosystem. 

Key responsibilities

  • Vision and Strategy. Define and champion a compelling vision and strategy for TO&A's internal product portfolio, focusing on how these tools can enhance employee experience, streamline workflows, and improve operational efficiency across Google DeepMind. Build a unified roadmap for critical features across multiple products, ensuring alignment with TO&A's objectives and the broader GDM strategy. Drive consensus across teams on this direction, influencing related projects to ensure a cohesive internal tool ecosystem
  • Product Roadmap and Prioritization. Build and manage roadmaps for a suite of internal tools (from products that support managing the research and product portfolio to products that support our talent and compute operations. Proactively identify and champion new investment opportunities that directly address internal pain points and boost organizational effectiveness within GDM.".
  • Cross-functional Leadership. Lead cross-functional teams to deliver on the product vision. Drive the discussion with cross-functional stakeholders on the optimum sequencing and prioritization of work, considering both impact to the organization as well as cost of development and launch. Work closely with a team of software engineers, user-experience designers, and program managers to develop and launch critical features on the product roadmap. 
  • Decision-Making and Communication. Become the go-to person for critical product-related decisions, demonstrating an advanced level of understanding of users needs, their workflows, and related technologies. Be a trusted spokesperson for the product, demonstrating the ability to explain the product and how it fits into the larger strategy to audiences of varying sizes and levels.
  • Analytical Capability. Understand how our internal products fit into the broader GDM operational landscape and directly address the needs of our employees.. Evangelize the adoption of TO&A products by the rest of the GDM organization. Utilize data and metrics on internal usage, feedback, and satisfaction to identify areas for improvement, uncover new opportunities, and prioritize features that will have the greatest positive impact on employee experience 
  • Team Coaching and Development: Support the development of junior members by providing coaching, guidance, and mentorship to the portfolio management team. Foster a collaborative and high-performing environment.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Product Manager at DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience:

  • Proven experience (5+ years) in product management or related technical role
  • Significant experience successfully managing products designed for small- and large-sized internal audiences
  • Ability to establish product management best-practices in the team
  • Passion for AI and their real world applications
  • Ability to influence engineering teams without direct authority, you work on and with technical and cross-functional or matrixed teams in a way that leads to aligned decision making
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with internal stakeholders at all levels.
  • Strong analytics, strategy, and data fluency experience
  • Ability to deliver successfully within pressing timelines

In addition, the following would be an advantage: 

  • Product strategy experience in managing highly-complex, technically-challenging projects spanning a wide set of stakeholder
  • Experience successfully managing products that were launched and used by a large number of external users
  • Familiarity with Google processes and/or teams 
  • Track record of building positive relationships with senior stakeholders and influencing strong personalities within a complex business environment
  • Past people management experience, incl. in hiring and leading distributed teams
