The Senior Process Development Technician builds safety, quality and cost-efficiency into manufacturing processes. Amyris is seeking a qualified individual to support start-up of new products including process conceptualization, design, scale-up, and operations to the site in Leland as well as support of existing operations including development, improvement and training.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in various unit operations, including organic chemical reactions, hydrogenation, evaporation & distillation, filtration, and adsorption. Additionally, experience in process scale-up, manufacturing, and Contract Manufacturing Organization (CMO) management is highly desirable. This position requires close collaboration with research & development, process development, engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams, making strong interpersonal and communication skills essential.
Responsabilities
- Display personal responsibility for individual as well as co-worker safety and maintaining safety as the highest priority by supporting and reinforcing procedures and policies.
- Articulate risk to proposed process execution and fit to the PD team based on experience and through the implementation of engineering techniques of mass and energy balances, cycle time analyses, etc.
- Support the development of equipment lists and CAPEX for process equipment modifications plus support implementation of Site Master Plan (SMP).
- Prepare project plans, time and resourcing estimates for developing new processes.
- Develop mass balances, process models, and cost estimates for new processes.
- Support the development of process design (PFD’s) and engineering (P&ID) packages
- Use statistical tools to design and analyze experimental data efficiently for process scale-up and troubleshooting
- Respond as appropriate to technical support requests from site on both new and legacy processes.
- Write SOP’s and Technology Transfers and support technology transfers to the Leland site.
- Support process optimization & troubleshooting at Leland site as needed
- Partner with the corporate development teams to give feedback on process development direction and build better scale-down models of the manufacturing operations.
- Contribute to the strategic development of Amyris Process Development and Manufacturing to ensure those teams are ready to efficiently build the Amyris systems and capabilities we need for the future.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Proven experience in technology transfer, including writing reports, SOPs, and Technology Transfer Reports, and leading process startups.
- Hands-on experience with reactor systems and unit operations (1-10 MT scale, including CSTRs, hydrogenation, evaporation/distillation, adsorption and filtration) and the design of equipment supporting those unit operations
- Industrial manufacturing experience.
- Willingness to travel as needed ( 10%).
- Availability to support 24/7 manufacturing operation as needed.

The pay range for this role is $73,500 to $120,500. Salary offers are made based on internal equity and market analysis, and will vary based on the candidate’s skills, depth of experience and specific work location.
