STV is seeking a Senior Planning Director to be based in Austin, TX. This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced, dynamic transportation planning leader to develop and direct a dynamic team of multidisciplinary transportation professionals.

STV continues to grow our strong resume of project work with the region’s key transportation agencies. The candidate will be a recognized senior professional with a focus on innovative transportation planning services.

The Senior Planning Director is responsible for:

  • Practice leadership - Working with practice and office leadership, focus on client development, business development and industry participation. A key focus of practice building is mentorship and skill development of professional staff. 
  • Technical Services - Lead and be responsible for a variety of technical planning services including general transportation planning, transit planning, project development, master planning, Direct experience in successfully delivering transportation studies, feasibility studies, alternatives analysis, environmental impact statements and assessments and leadership for multi-discipline projects with high degrees of technical complexity and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Client relationship development and Business Development- Develop and nurture key client relationships and leverage existing client relationships for future work opportunities. Lead and/or support the direction of pursuit strategies and preparation of proposals  
  • Business and administrative management - Negotiating and establishing project budgets, staffing, project coordination and productivity necessary to deliver exceptional services to our clients. Coordination with other directors/leaders to ensure excellent quality and consistent application of technical standards and applications across projects.
  • Develop and implement the vision for the planning practice within the organization.
  • Foster a collaborative and innovative environment, encouraging team members to develop their skills and deliver high-quality work.
  • Oversee all phases of planning projects, from conception through execution and completion.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and resources, ensuring efficient and effective project delivery.
  • Perform quality assurance and quality control on project deliverables to maintain a high standard of work.
  • Develop business strategies to grow the civil planning practice, including identifying new markets and service opportunities.
  • Participate in proposal writing and presentations to win new projects.
  • Provide technical guidance to the team, drawing on expertise in planning, engineering, zoning, land use, and environmental considerations.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, regulations, and best practices, integrating innovative solutions into project approaches.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients, ensuring their needs and expectations are met.
  • Foster relationships with key stakeholders, including governmental agencies, developers, and community representatives.

Requirements

  • Direct experience in successfully delivering transportation studies, feasibility studies, alternatives analysis, environmental impact statements and assessments and leadership for multi-discipline projects with high degrees of technical complexity and multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Smart Cities experience is preferred.
  • Proven project management skills, with experience overseeing complex transportation projects.
  • Experience working with transportation agencies including federal, state and local authorities. 
  • Demonstrated planning practice development and management capability.
  • Bachelors or Masters of Science degree in planning or engineering curriculum. Masters preferred.
  • Twenty (20) years of experience in transportation planning or a closely related field, with professional experience in both the public sector and private-sector consulting.
  • AICP or PE professional certification.
  • A strong reputation with major clients, knowledge of market opportunities in Oregon, Washington, California and surrounding states, and a facility for business development and winning project work.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Compensation Range:

$140,810.99 - $187,747.98
