The Senior OCS Engineer will lead the design, analysis, and installation oversight of overhead catenary systems for Light Rail expansions and improvements. This role ensures the OCS infrastructure meets safety, reliability, and operational requirements, working closely with civil, track, and traction power teams.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
OCS Design - Develop catenary system designs, including pole placement, wire configurations, tension calculations, and structural support requirements.
Perform mechanical and electrical load analyses using specialized software (e.g., ELFF, CATENARY software).
Standards & Compliance - Ensure designs comply with applicable codes (AREMA, IEEE, EN standards where relevant) and local regulations. Coordinate with local permitting authorities and utility companies.
Project Management- Lead project planning, cost estimating, scheduling, and resource allocation for OCS-related work. Coordinate with contractors, suppliers, and other stakeholders to ensure alignment on scope and timelines.
Construction Oversight - Provide technical guidance during construction, installation, and tensioning of overhead wires and support structures. Review contractor submittals and respond to RFIs (Requests for Information).
Inspection & Testing - Conduct field inspections to verify compliance with design specifications and quality standards. Oversee acceptance testing and post-installation adjustments or modifications.

What You'll Do:

  • Performs independent technical reviews, makes recommendations, and provides technical guidance as requested on complex or unusual engineering projects. Provides direction to resolve technical issues as requested.
  • Provides technical expertise and advice to project leadership, and mentoring/support to production staff.
  • Assists in marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation on complex or unusual projects within discipline.
  • Coordinates technical aspects with client counterpart and teaming partners at local leadership level for work within and across disciplines on complex or unusual projects.
  • Develops and advises on technical consistency within and across disciplines on processes and projects. Ensures same standard and practices are being applied.
  • Recruits, hires, develops and retains staff of discipline-specific team, including development of plan for staff reporting, performance and compensation reviews, and succession. Coordinates schedules and approves timecards. Collaborates with Sections and Departments within the office on work-sharing needs and opportunities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 12 years of relevant experience, or
  • Master’s degree in relevant field and 11 years of relevant experience, or
  • PhD in relevant field and 10 years of relevant experience

What We Prefer:

  • Master’s degree in Engineering

  • 20 years relevant experience

  • Professional Engineer (PE) certification

The approximate pay range for the Greater Seattle, WA Metro Area is $168,853.83 - $269,727.55. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be dependent on factors, including but not limited to, the individual’s qualifications, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as physical work location within the state.
