Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Motion Planning and Control Engineer to join our innovative AI robotics company. In this role, you will design, develop, and optimize cutting-edge robotic manipulation and navigation solutions, as well as work on behavior planning for complex robotic systems. You will also collaborate closely with other teams to ensure seamless integration of the planning and control stack into real-world robotic applications.

Why RoboForce

RoboForce, an AI robotics company, is building a first-of-its-kind Robotic Workforce System to tackle the most tedious, force-demanding, and dangerous work that humans shouldn't have to do.

At RoboForce, we're building a small team with a flat organizational structure and extreme talent density. Our team includes top tech leaders from CMU Robotics, Michigan Robotics, Amazon Robotics, Tesla Robotics, Google, Waymo, Apple, and Microsoft. RoboForce is backed by world-class investors, including Nobel Prize laureate, Carnegie Mellon University, and others. Here, you will thrive in a fast-paced startup atmosphere where your work has immediate impact and visibility. You will have the freedom to innovate and take ownership of projects, shaping the direction of development with your ideas and expertise. Most importantly, you’ll be around robots—a lot!

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement advanced algorithms for navigation and manipulation, optimizing their performance for real-time applications.
  • Develop and fine-tune low-level control algorithms to achieve precise control of robotic systems.
  • Proactively learn and adopt new ideas, concepts, and technologies to drive innovation.
  • Collaborate with hardware, AI, and product teams to ensure robust system integration and performance.
  • Develop and maintain high-quality, reliable software that will be deployed in real-world applications.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Robotics, Control, Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field with 5+ years of industry experience.
  • Strong expertise in robot kinematics & dynamics, optimization, and state estimation techniques.
  • Solid understanding of path and trajectory planning, low-level control, and behavior planning.
  • Senior-level expertise in algorithm design and programming, with proficiency in modern C++.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must work on-site at our office in the California Bay Area.
  • Must have and maintain US work authorization.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Robotics, Control, Computer Science, AI, or a related technical field.
  • Publication record in developing and deploying AI robotics solutions.
  • Familiarity with reinforcement learning or deep learning techniques for motion planning and control in contact-rich environments.
  • Experience with actuators, sensors, and low-level control systems.
  • Proven track record in optimizing and deploying real-time control systems.
  • Ready to thrive in a high-paced, fast-growing startup environment.
