Ursa Major was founded to address a critical shortfall in the U.S. industrial base and bring a new model to aerospace and defense systems: we design and manufacture the world’s leading propulsion systems for space, hypersonic applications, and missile systems.

Our products and technologies require an extraordinary team – a team that will mold tomorrow’s technologies while deploying today’s best. We are an intrinsically motivated team that has a passion for solving problems and empowering each other every day to develop our skills, knowing that there is always room for growth.

Delivering a qualified product is just the beginning. The Senior Mission Integration Engineer is central to customer mission success starting with engine delivery and contract execution through flight. You will be the engine technical expert on-site to assist customers with integration, operation, testing and flight of Ursa engines. Typical assignments include: acting as the point of contact for customer integration and contract maintenance, establishing and ensuring compliance to the Interface Control Document (ICD), authoring and executing integrated test procedures, engine inspections, hardware troubleshooting, briefing technical issues to the customer and providing overall program status, and multi-week test and flight campaigns on-location. A successful candidate will be eager to learn about rocket engines, enjoy hands-on work and solving complex problems, enjoy work-related travel, and be comfortable communicating technical and programmatic information to customers.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage customer contract execution starting at customer engine build and delivery
  • Act as the day-to-day point of contact for the customer’s program manager and propulsion lead
  • Lead customer status updates and milestone reviews for both programmatic and technical content
  • Present and provide technical review in customer meetings and integration reviews
  • Ensure execution of and compliance to the Interface Control Document (ICD) from Ursa and Customers
  • Become a subject matter expert on vehicle propulsion systems and Ursa engines
  • Travel to customer sites and lead engine integration, supporting checkouts, and assist in test and flight campaigns
  • Review data from engine tests to support fast-paced customer test campaigns
  • Troubleshoot engine and component hardware issues in the field, develop solutions with the Ursa team and customer, and lead implementation
  • Identify and implement engine improvements focused on customer needs, risk reduction, and end-use

Required Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Engineering
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience
  • Passion for developing customer relationships and ensuring mission success
  • Attention to detail, curiosity, and relentless in resolving problems
  • Hands-on experience with aerospace hardware
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, startup environment
  • Willing to spend 30% of the year on travel for multi-week test and flight campaigns

Desired Experience:

  • Master's degree in Engineering
  • Technical expertise in liquid rocket engine manufacturing, integration, or test
  • Technical expertise in vehicle stage systems and propulsion fluid systems
  • Flight or test operational experience
  • Strong understanding of aerospace industry standards and requirements
  • Experience in systems engineering and requirements verification
  • Experience in a mission assurance role
  • Demonstrated leadership in a customer-facing role
  • Prior experience as a project or team lead with a focus on managing schedules and delegating tasks appropriately

What We Do

At Ursa Major, we are powering the future of aerospace. We see aerospace advancement as a technological imperative and we’re accelerating the industry as the leading source of world-class propulsion systems.

We meticulously design, craft, and test engines that are optimized to offer high performance, diverse capability, and unwavering reliability.

Why Work With Us

As much as we value talent, we know that it’s meaningless without the drive, humility, and hunger to work on a team. A team shares a common goal and obsesses about achieving it together. This requires leaving egos at the door and committing to do whatever’s required (within reason) to achieve mission success.
