TITLE: Senior Mechanical Engineer, Instruments
POSITION SUMMARY: The Senior Mechanical Engineer will focus on creating medical device instruments for our robotic platform in a cross-functional team environment.
The ideal candidate would act with passion and intensity in a medical device start-up that is fast paced and collaborative and display the ability to perform to the requirements outlined below. For the right person, this position will be a tremendously exciting and career-defining opportunity, making core contributions to a genuinely new type of medical robotic platform.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- As a member of the Endoscopy R&D team, you will help develop the instruments for a groundbreaking flexible robotic endoscopy platform. This includes inventing, designing, building, testing and iterating.
- Working as part of the endoscopy instruments group, but collaborating with clinical, capital, software, and systems groups to ensure our devices are high performing and reliable.
- Design of mechanical components including fluidic pathways, seals, gears, latches, electrical connections, etc.
- Detailed mechanical design for multiple versions of our endoscope and toolset.
- Significant hands-on building and testing of multiple generations of prototypes.
- Collaborate with NPI and manufacturing to use DFM principles and develop lean processes to minimize cost.
- Work closely with vendors.
- Lead assessments and make recommendations for solving challenging design problems at both the component and system levels, via inspection, testing, analysis, and experimentation.
- Create and maintain Solidworks CAD models and detailed drawings.
- Create analytical documents, including test methods, protocols, structural analysis, and test reports.
- Thinking flexibly and creatively about the problems you are trying to solve and figuring out a way forward.
- Working closely with clinicians and clinical marketing to understand clinical needs that lead to product specifications and risk analyses.
- Filing invention disclosures and working with our IP firm to get inventions patented.
- Creating manufacturing methods that are developed, characterized, bounded and repeatable.
- Working well within the confines of a regulated, quality-system driven, medical device environment
- Developing test methods, protocols, reports and conclusions to evaluate components and processes.
- Showing a high degree of self-direction
- Developing equipment to manufacture prototypes and commercial product.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- B.S. or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related.
- 5+ years of work experience as a hands-on mechanical engineer.
- A willingness to work hard, with a driven outlook and with a strong desire to succeed as an engineer, as a team, and as a company
- An inventive aptitude balanced with discipline and detail-orientation
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Medical device experience
- Developed products from invention to market release.
- Experience in a start-up environment wearing multiple hats.
- Experience with industrial design and product design.
- Proficient with SolidWorks.
- Experience with medical device manufacturing.
Triton Robotics is located in Burlingame, CA, near the Millbrae Caltrain and BART Station
Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $150,000 and $170,000 depending on experience. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: education, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, and location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. This role may also be eligible for equity, benefits and 401(K) with matching.
