Role Summary:
Futronics, a global leader in AI robotics company in stealth mode focusing on healthcare
automation, is looking for highly motivated Senior Manipulation and Control Engineers
to join the team in Los Angeles. You will have the opportunity to work on the service
and rehabilitation robots for the healthcare domain and innovate on core technologies
to differentiate our products. The R&D team comprises a diverse set of skilled
researchers and engineers. The ideal candidate has a successful track record in
production applications and can work hand in hand with the team to deliver the newest
cutting-edge AI robotic ecosystem.
Job Type: Full-Time
Essential Responsibilities:
• Define and execute short-term and long-term engineering and R&D plans in
Kinematics/Dynamics, Motion Planning, and Control to support current and next-
generation product development and frontier research in Futronics.
• Work with the local and global business, product, and R&D teams to define the
requirements for the manipulation subsystem of our new robot product and convert
the designs into technical development requirements.
• Work with R&D team members to design the overall solution and ensure that the
R&D designs satisfy the products' requirements.
• Design and implement the major components of the manipulation subsystems,
including, but not limited to, motion planning, obstacle avoidance, motion control,
force/torque control, admittance/impedance control, visual servo control, task
validation, 3D environmental modeling, etc. Debug and test the overall
manipulation system.
• Work as an internal expert and consultant for other team members.
• Track the state-of-the-art technology and conduct frontier R&D.
• Actively attend international conferences and forums to present our work, publish
research articles, and file patent applications.
• Domestic and international travel required for internal meetings, external technical
meetings, conferences, and partner discussions.
• Other duties may be required from time to time.
Basic Qualifications/Requirements:
• M.S. or Ph.D. in Robotics, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical
Engineering, Computer Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and related fields.
• Expertise in dexterous manipulation/grasping, arm motion planning, trajectory
optimization, mechanism design, physical human-robot interaction (pHRI) and
coordinated whole-body control.
• Proficient in kinematics, dynamics modeling, system parameters identification and
validation, and analysis of robot manipulators.
• Proficient in using mainstream microcontrollers and SOC devices for robotic motion
planning and control. Drive system integration and testing of both HW/SW of
robotic manipulation systems.
• Solid hands-on experience with Robot Operating System (ROS). Experience with
MoveIt is a bonus.
• Ability to deliver clean and efficient code (C/C++, Python, MATLAB, etc.) with
organized documentation in Linux/Windows/MacOS. Knowledge and hands-on
experience in version control (e.g., git) and code review.
• Experience in perceptual/computer vision information-based manipulation systems
would be a bonus.
• Traceable research work with publications/patents in robotic manipulation system
development.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Self-motivated and passionate about
robotics and AI.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Willing to work at different working locations when necessary.
• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
• 5 or more years of industrial experience conducting applied research or developing
real robotic systems.
• In-depth expertise in technical fields relevant to robotic manipulation with both
system-level thinking and component-level development.
• Passionate about exploring new areas and implementing innovative ideas and
concepts in Futronics products.
• Familiar with building embedded robotic platforms and implementing embedded
software on microcontrollers.
• Customer engagement with solid strategic thinking skills, business development,
and excellent execution to meet business requirements and deadlines.
• Strong connection with global technical leaders and academic researchers.
• Work independently and with other team members and lead teams in a dynamic
and fast-paced environment.
• Excellent skills in communicating with the executive management team.
