TITLE: Senior Manager, Engineering 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • The Senior Manager, Engineering at Duck Creek Technologies is responsible for leading a team of software engineers in the design, development, and delivery of cutting-edge solutions for the insurance technology space.  

  • This role involves overseeing multiple engineering teams, driving technical excellence, and ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality products.  

  • The Senior Manager, Engineering will collaborate closely with other senior leaders in product management, operations, and customer success to align development activities with business objectives 

  • Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and leadership to team members, promoting a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. 

  • Ensure the timely delivery of projects by actively managing team workloads, priorities, and deadlines. 

  • Drive the adoption of best practices in coding standards, testing, security, and performance to ensure engineering excellence. 

  • Manage performance, conduct regular one-on-one meetings, and provide feedback and coaching to team members. 

  • Facilitate the career development of team members by identifying training needs, providing development opportunities, and conducting performance evaluations. 

  • Oversee resource planning and allocation to ensure teams are equipped to meet project demands and timelines. 

  • Partner with the Talent Acquisition team to recruit, hire, and onboard top engineering talent. 

  • Foster a collaborative and innovative team environment that aligns with Duck Creek’s values and business goals. 

  • Develop and manage the engineering budget, ensuring efficient resource utilization and cost management.  

 

WHAT YOU’VE DONE:    

  • Degree preferred or equivalent years of practical job experience in a similar function or role. 

  • Total Work Experience: 6+ years (software development) with at least 4 years in .NET Core 

  • Leadership Experience: 3+ years leading other developers. 

  • Lead and manage multiple engineering teams responsible for the development, testing, and deployment of software solutions. 

  • Develop and implement engineering strategies, practices, and processes that support scalable, high-quality, and reliable software products. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Product Management, Quality Assurance, and Operations to align technical initiatives with business objectives. 

  • The position requires a deep understanding of software development, people management, and the ability to manage complex projects in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. 

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND BEHAVIORS: 

  • Strong leadership and people management skills with the ability to inspire and motivate teams. 

  • In-depth understanding of modern software development methodologies, including Agile, Scrum, and DevOps practices. 

  • Proficiency in managing complex software development projects with competing priorities and deadlines. 

  • Proficiency in software and development tools, such as .NET (C#), Python, PowerShell, Kafka or RabbitMQ, Docker, Kubernetes, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.  

  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. 

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions. 

  • Expertise in cloud computing platforms such as Azure, AWS or Google Cloud. 

  • Knowledge of software architecture principles, including microservices, APIs, and containerization. 

  • Ability to foster a collaborative, high-performing engineering culture. 

  • Proven ability to manage forecasts and resource planning in an engineering organization. 

  • Commitment to continuous improvement, innovation, and process optimization. 

  • Ability to manage conflict and resolve complex team dynamics. 

  • Strategic thinking with a focus on long-term planning and aligning engineering efforts with business goals. 

  • High emotional intelligence and ability to manage diverse teams effectively. 

 

WHAT ADDITIONAL INFORMATION YOU MAY WANT TO KNOW:   

  • Travel: 0-10% 

  • Location: Remote Poland
