The role:
The Senior Manager, Software Engineering Governance (2LOD) will drive strategic approach, governance, operational oversight, and act as a second line of defense risk management specialist across SoFi Software Engineering Teams. This leader will play a pivotal role in developing, shaping, and executing our Technology Risk Management strategy and will work to mature foundational areas that drive risk program enhancement and risk mitigation. At the core, the leader will partner with first line teams to leverage data to drive identification of risks, ensure robust controls are embedded in operational processes, and establish new risk programs.

This leader will work closely with 1LOD Engineering leadership to ensure adherence to the firm's risk appetite, independent oversight, effective controls, escalation, and embedded governance.
What you'll do:

You will be a part of the second line of defense (2LOD) Technology Risk Management team, dedicated to driving risk management around our foundational technology, with a specific focus on Software Engineering processes and tools and AWS environments that provide the solutions supporting our mission to help members achieve their financial ambitions. Opportunities for success will include but are not limited to the following risk activities:

  • Provide risk management coverage for SoFi Technologies and Bank code releases, deployment orchestration and risks associated with software development life cycle management.
  • Design and lead targeted risk assessments across technology domains, with an emphasis on SDLC practices and secure code development.
  • Identify, assess, and report on risks associated with technology and infrastructure, including the AWS environment.
  • Play a key role in ensuring SoFi meets IT regulatory requirements by fostering and promoting best practices in software engineering..
  • Partner with key stakeholders across the organization to identify non-adherence with IT standards or requirements, control gaps and areas where risk is not sufficiently mitigated to improve the overall technology risk posture around management of technology and software engineering.
  • Review and assess SoFi's technology risk and control environment, including but not limited to user access management, application security, change management, backup and recovery, and PMLC/SDLC.
  • Monitor and develop Key Risk Indicators (KRIs) to help drive more efficient reporting of aggregate risks that will in turn lead to escalation of risks requiring attention.


What you'll need:

  • 5+ years of programming experience, with significant experience in a JVM-based language and familiarity with Spring.
  • Relevant professional experience in Technology Risk Management or Technology Audit Management, including exposure with an industry Technology Control Framework (IIA, FFIEC, NIST, ISO, COBIT, PCI, etc.)
  • Deep understanding of code release, deployment orchestration / rollout mechanisms, logging, instrumentation, monitoring and alerting in a microservices environment.
  • Expert understanding and hands-on experience building and operating large-scale fault-tolerant distributed systems, workflows, databases and mobile/web applications.
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure.
  • Ability to communicate technology, security, and risk management concepts to both technical and non-technical partners.


Nice to have:

  • Work at a financial institution heavily supervised by regulators with a focus on building oversight and risk identification.
  • AWS audit or risk management experience.
  • Relevant industry certifications, for example, CISSP, CCSK, CISA, AWS CCP, Java, Spring
  • Familiarity with Google Docs, Sheets and Slides
