Senior Manager, Senior Counsel - Capital Markets Legal

The Capital One Legal Department is seeking an attorney for its Capital Markets Legal team to provide business, transactional and regulatory counsel support for Treasury functions including collateral and asset liability management teams, risk management and a variety of securities and derivatives projects, including capital markets transactions.
This position includes the opportunity to play a role in company-wide projects and initiatives and work with senior management and teams across the enterprise. You'll be a key player by providing real-time legal advice on transactions and longer-term strategic initiatives. You'll work closely with internal business partners, senior management and with internal and external legal counsel to provide innovative solutions in a collaborative, supportive environment that values your insight, promotes continuous learning, and rewards creative thinking.

Strong legal and analytical skills, an ability to navigate unique legal and business situations and the flexibility to simultaneously manage a wide range of projects are essential. Successful candidates will be able to work closely with partners across the company to identify legal and reputational risks, interpret applicable laws and regulations, deliver grounded legal assessments and provide thoughtful and practical solutions and recommendations.
Responsibilities include:
- Acting as a strategic partner to Corporate Treasury by advising on collateral, asset liability and risk management functions as well as a variety of securities and derivatives projects
- Advising the Commercial Bank's Capital Markets line of business on various capital markets transactions
- Providing legal advice on complex and novel issues including trading and netting agreements as well as disclosure documents
- Managing legal processes and projects that help the business succeed
Basic Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
- At least 4 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm, in-house legal department, or government agency
Preferred Qualifications:
- 5+ years of capital markets related experience in a law firm, in-house legal department, at a financial institution or a combination
- Working knowledge of capital markets transactions and securities trading documentation
- Familiarity generally with Treasury related functions, including but not limited to, clearing and margining of derivatives and knowledge of related documentation (i.e., FCM and IM Agreements as well as ISDAs).

This role is hybrid meaning associates spend 3 days per week in-person at one of our offices listed on this job posting. Fridays are enterprise- wide virtual work days. Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are options for in-person days for associates to spend time together working in our beautifully-designed team areas.
The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.
McLean, VA: $193,000 - $220,300 for Sr. Manager, Sr. Counsel
Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.
This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
