Choice Hotels, one of the world’s largest lodging franchisors, has an exciting new opportunity as our Senior Manager of Public Relations in the External Communications department. The Public Relations function is responsible for ensuring the right message gets delivered to the right audience using earned media and speaking engagements. As a key member of our External Communications team you will work closely with the Senior Director of External Communications and other, key internal stakeholders to lead the development and implementation of strategic PR plans for various Choice Hotels brands and cross-functional, enterprise-wide initiatives and business priorities.

Your Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary communications liaison to various internal business partners, advising on PR matters.

  • Develop and execute integrated public relations strategies across brand segments and enterprise level initiatives in collaboration with the External Communications team and other internal stakeholders.

  • Proactively generate earned media coverage across various verticals including lifestyle/consumer, hospitality trade, advertising trade, general business, regional travel and other.

  • Serve as project manager and communications liaison between Choice, the external public relations agency and various internal Choice brand teams, helping to identify key business initiatives that are newsworthy.

  • Manage deadlines and key deliverables, as well as quality control and editorial review of content including press releases, blog posts and other materials.

  • Work with company leadership to identify potential contentious issues and prepare key messages and appropriate issues management strategies.

  • Manage and coordinate media coverage of and at events.

Your Experience, Skills & Competencies

  • Bachelor's degree in related field preferred or equivalent experience

  • At least 8 years’ experience in public relations / corporate communications

  • PR agency experience (at a Sr. Account Executive level or higher) a plus.

  • Exceptional communications skills, especially written and editorial ability, as well as verbal and non-verbal skills, and correspondence fluency. Familiarity with Associated Press style.

  • Ability to project manage, multi-task and juggle multiple demands and quickly shifting priorities.

  • Excellent follow-through and attention to details.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Word

  • Proficient in drafting media materials including press releases, talking points, briefing documents, blog posts, etc.

  • Demonstrates key competencies to include working within a matrixed organization, being a self-starter, consensus building, managing others, working with executives at the highest levels.

Your Team

This is a leadership role that will report to the Senior Director of External Communications. You will have 2 direct reports and collaborate with cross functional departments on a regular basis.

Your Work Location

As our Senior Manager of Public Relations, you will be based in our beautiful, state-of-the-art worldwide corporate headquarters in North Bethesda, MD. Less than 15 miles from Washington, DC, we’re located one block away from the North Bethesda Metro station, with service on the Red Line and the MARC Brunswick line, easy access to I-270, and plenty of free parking provided by Choice Hotels.

Salary Range

The salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000 annually. In addition to the annual salary, this role is eligible for an annual bonus based on the terms of Choice's Management Incentive Plan (MIP).

The pay range listed is for this position and is what Choice Hotels reasonably expects to pay. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range, and the range may be modified in the future. An employee’s pay position within the pay range will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, shift, travel requirements, sales or revenue-based metrics, and business or organizational needs.
