SUMMARY

Leads a team of highly technical failure analysis engineers to resolve extremely complex failures where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of multiple factors including mechanical, electrical data, and physical failure signatures

Responsible for training/educating failure analysis engineers and technicians on new techniques and for cross training to propagate best practices.

Makes decisions on administrative and operational matters of failure analysis organization and ensures effective achievement of operation’s objectives including failure analysis cycle times, accuracy and thoroughness leading to first pass success.

Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives.

Regularly interacts with internal and external customers. Interactions may involve controversial situations, negotiations, or influencing and persuading other senior level managers.

Demonstrates assertiveness leading to effective change management, employee performance engagement. Interacts regularly with the team soliciting inputs for efficiency improvements, failure analysis techniques development and failure resolution.
RESPONSIBILITIES

Works with cross-functional teams (Manufacturing, Quality, Reliability, Design, etc.) to solve problems arising from customer returns, process anomalies, engineering evaluations, and new product development

Develop methods, processes, procedures and equipment that will improve the failure analysis process and/or reduce failures

Wet and Dry Chemical de-processing or parallel polishing will be used to reveal the defects
-
Micro probing and circuit understanding/debugging will be required to isolate the defects
-
Demonstrated competence without supervision the operation and application of standard failure analysis tools including: X-ray analysis, Acoustic Microscopy, Light Microscopy, Oscilloscopes, IR microscopy, OBIRCH, photon emission microscopy (PEM) and SEM/EDS analysis, and Focused Ion Beam methods.

Required to manage team of FA engineers and technicians who work on rotating shifts or fixed assigned shifts including weekends
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics or Physics with solid understanding of circuit theory, and semiconductor physics

Master’s degree or PhD preferred

Minimum 10 years managerial experience in semiconductor industry, out of which 5 years should be in Failure analysis; 12-15 years of hands on semiconductor device Failure analysis experience on silicon die level

Must be a good problem solver, demonstrate good interpersonal skills and be a go-getter

Good knowledge of analog/digital circuit analysis, semiconductor physics and bipolar/CMOS, analog/power/mixed-mode IC design preferred

Demonstrated proficiency utilizing MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, photo-editing, Cadence schematic and layout, MATLAB.
