About the Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager, Database Operations to lead our PostgreSQL database infrastructure. This role is responsible for ensuring high availability, performance, security, and scalability of our database systems. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in PostgreSQL administration, performance tuning, and disaster recovery, with a strong focus on operational excellence.

Responsilbiities

• Database Administration & Maintenance:
• Install, upgrade, and patch PostgreSQL databases
• Maintain 99.9%+ uptime and ensure high availability
• Manage replication (logical & streaming) and backups
• Review DDL, DML, and data-related scripts from application teams




• Performance Tuning & Optimization:
• Identify and resolve slow queries through query optimization
• Monitor and manage indexing strategies for optimal performance
• Conduct regular performance audits and implement improvements




• Database Security & User Management:
• Work with architects to plan and execute DB security policies
• Manage user roles, permissions, and access controls
• Implement audit logging and monitoring for compliance




• Backup & Disaster Recovery:
• Design and implement backup strategies (full, incremental, PITR)
• Establish automated failover mechanisms for high availability
• Conduct regular DR drills to ensure recovery readiness 




• Capacity Planning & Monitoring:
• Monitor database storage, CPU, and memory usage
• Forecast capacity needs and plan scaling strategies
• Optimize resource allocation to prevent bottlenecks
• Oversee the day-to-day work of team members, ensuring tasks are completed on time and meet expected quality standards.
• Ensure team compliance with internal policies and procedures, aligning with the company's values and code of conduct.

Requirements

• Hands-on experience of  PostgreSQL administration in production environments
• Expertise in performance tuning, replication, and backup strategies
• Strong knowledge of Linux, scripting (Bash/Python), and automation tools
• Experience with monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana, PgBadger)
• Experience with PostgreSQL extensions (TimescaleDB, Citus)
• Knowledge of cloud database services (AWS RDS, Aurora, Google Cloud SQL)
• Familiarity with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
